I decided to ride the route I bailed out on last Friday for today’s bike ride. The route goes north to Community Drive, crosses US59, through Valley Ranch, Forest Colony to FM1314, NE on FM1314 to Cumberland Blvd. I make a short ride into Cumberland before heading SE on FM1314 to Old Sorters Road. As I passed Sorters Road I saw construction work on widening Sorters Road south of FM1314. I have not been near the construction area for some time and didn’t realize the progress. I’m not sure how far the widening will go but maybe someday it will be wide enough to ride there. Without the new road it was a two lanes with no shoulder and lots of traffic. I did ride on Sorters Road from West Fork High School to US59 today to reach Hamblen Road and the San Jacinto Bayou Greenway. This route is called Community Drive – Cumberland – Forest Cove and today was the fourth time riding it. AXS.SRAM.com ride report. The ride began at 12:15 PM and finished at 3:06 PM.
To prepare for my bike tour at the end of March and the first week of April I made some changes to my Canyon Endurace CF 7 bike for today’s bike ride. I switched the Ultegra road pedals for Shimano MTB SPD pedals, wore MTB shoes, and used the DT Swiss Endurance LN wheels with 700x40mm tires. I thought the heavier tires might slow me down but this was the fastest of the rides on the route and achieved the Strava 2nd fastest time on Kris Spraggins Memorial Route (2:13). I want to get used to this setup and check for any problems.
I am waiting for warmer weather. It was chilly during the ride for me. The shade and wind were more chilling. Weather: Start 67 degrees, humidity 55%, dew point 50.2, mostly cloudy, wind NE 7 mph; Finish 70 degrees, humidity 49%, dew point 50.4, partly cloudy, wind SE 10 mph gusts 20 mph.
