Yesterday I rode a little south and a lot to the west. Today I turned the compass and rode a little south and a lot to the east on the Kingwood to Ramsey Road – Huffman route. The start was delayed by a dead cadence sensor battery and the power meter not connecting to the Wahoo Bolt computer. I replaced the sensor battery but the power meter decided to connect after I removed the battery and put it back in. Then I rolled out at 9:45 AM on my Canyon Endurace CF 7 bike. I wasn’t sure what the distance would be because I forgot to look up previous rides but I guessed 38 miles. It turned out to be 41.03 miles helping to build a buffer towards September’s 866 mile goal. After finishing at 1:00 PM I checked the previous ride on June 20th was 42.4 miles. Today I saw goats and cattle beside Old Atascocita Road east of FM2100 compared to the squirrels yesterday. At Ramsey Road the electric transmission construction work was complete leaving a new road surface on Ramsey Road to the north and new guardrails on the bridge. The trees are gone so no shade like there used to be. My rest break didn’t last too long as I stood in the sun. Several CenterPoint Energy people were doing something in the trees and brush beside the road. The weather continues to be less heat intensive than August. Weather: Start 79 degrees, humidity 83%, dew point 73.5, mostly cloudy, wind NE 12 mph; Finish 89 degrees, humidity 64%, dew point 75.6, mostly cloudy, wind SE 10 mph.

Cycling the Greenways: A Rewarding Labor Day Ride
What better way to celebrate Labor Day than to labor pedaling the Spring Creek Greenway to Dennis Johnston Park and the San Jacinto Bayou Greenway on the way back. I should’ve started earlier than 10:19 AM though. The Cervelo Caledonia was the bike of choice today. I didn’t know if a lot of people would be on the greenway because of the holiday. When I reached the US59 trailhead there were a number of vehicles parked there with several people tending to their bicycles. As I entered the greenway several cyclists rode towards me along with people walking. From there the number of cyclists went up and only some made it in the video. The last time I rode to Dennis Johnston Park was July 3rd, 2023. I have beyond that park since then. The weather was good with mostly cloudy skies and in the mid 80’s. The trees blocked some of the 13 to 15 mph wind once I was on the greenway but riding back from US59 the wind got the better of my legs. Riding the greenway is different from the open roads where the stops and starts give my legs a brief rest. On the greenway I usually don’t stop except for one rest break. Today I stopped at John Pundt Park on the way back. No people on the San Jacinto Bayou Greenway or bike route streets. I finished at 2:32 PM riding 47.16 miles. This put me slightly ahead of the pace to reach September’s 866 mile goal. I received these Strava top results: 3rd fastest time on Evy’s Run (3:48) and 3rd fastest time on Punde to Dennis Johnston (11:13).

Social bike ride group invites Longview to celebrate ‘903 Day’ on two wheels
Samuel Shaw | www.news-journal.com
There’s a three-digit number every Northeast Texan knows by heart: 903. Like every area code, it doubles as a term of belonging, a metonym for the place it represents. It means Longview, Tyler and the transition between urban Dallas and the forests of the Piney Woods. For many people, it means home.
Eric Martinez is the founder of the Carpe Diem social bike ride group in Longview. On Sept. 3 — that’s 9/03 if you didn’t catch it — Martinez is organizing a two-wheeled cruise through the streets of Longview to celebrate the area. …

by Paige Taylor | okcfox.com
OKLAHOMA CITY, Okla. (KOKH) — One Texas woman is bicycling her way from Amarillo, TX to Owensville, MO, all in honor of her brother who passed away from Fentanyl poisoning.
