National Bike to Work Day is Friday, May 17th, 2024! This year’s Bike to Work Day will include over 40 fueling stations around Austin. Fueling stations will operate from 7 AM – 9 AM and give out a variety of free treats like coffee, tacos, waffles, snacks, and complimentary bike tune-ups for commuters. The morning will conclude with a celebration at City Hall featuring bike-friendly vendors passing out goodies and special guest speakers.
Biking is a great way to get where one needs to go, while connecting with our environment, community, nature, and also boosting mental and physical health. Biking has also been shown to reduce stress and reduce air pollution. Although “work” is in the name, you don’t have to be on your way to work to actually participate. Just get out on a bike! Cyclist killed after getting hit by several vehicles near Houston Museum District

HOUSTON – A bicyclist was killed Monday night after authorities say he managed to avoid getting hit by an 18-wheeler but was hit by several other vehicles on the 288 Fwy near the Museum District. It happened around 9:30 p.m. when police say a man on a bicycle tried crossing the main lanes of Hwy 288 and Calumet St.
Witnesses told police when an 18-wheeler almost hit him, but he was able to swerve on his bicycle but fell off. He tried getting up, investigators say, but that’s when he was hit by three other cars. …

MSU Cycling with 1-2-3 finish in conference

The Midwestern State University Cycling Team won the South Central Collegiate Cycling Conference Championship held in Wichita Falls April 13-14.
MSU Texas was paced by Pavle Kalaba, Dušan Kalaba, and Carlos Maldonado, who took first, second, and third individually in the Men’s A Division. Texas A&M was second behind MSU in the team standings, and Texas State earned third.
Molly Hayes, a freshman at MSU Texas, raced to a first-place finish in the Women’s A Division to qualify for nationals. Brittany Bailey of MSU was second in Women’s B, and Jacelyn Reno was second in Women’s C. Joaquin Traslosheros earned first in Men’s B.

Bike to UT Day celebrates student cyclists’ contributions to more sustainable University

The University Parking and Transportation Services Department held Bike to UT Day on Tuesday to promote cycling and celebrate cyclists’ contribution to campus by reducing pollution and traffic congestion.
Students had the opportunity to connect with local advocacy groups to gain awareness about resources and city-wide initiatives. Safe Streets Austin, a group advocating for the creation of protected bike lanes across the city, attended the event.
