Second time biking the Atascocita South – Walden – Huffman route this year. Previous ride was March 7th. I tried to follow the same streets but I missed a little riding 37.4 miles versus 37.5 miles March 7th. Pretty close, maybe I took a few corners shorter today. Stage 16th of the Giro d’Italia delayed my start until 10:23 AM. The weather there was not very good. Here was much better though the sky looked strange and I felt 1 rain drop before the clouds thinned. My Cervelo Caledonia was the bike and it now has over 11,000 miles. In Walden I rode a section of the Atascocita Hike and Bike Trail. A headwind battled me until I made the left turn onto FM2100 from Old Atascocita Road. Then I picked up the pace back to Kingwood finishing at 1:16 PM. Link to the AXS.SRAM.com ride report. Only 159 more miles to reach May’s goal.

Australian champion puts 14 minutes into women’s runner up Marisa Boaz while Niki Terpstra takes second in men’s race
It was a pair of decisive victories at the Gravel Locos 150 over the weekend as Australian champion Justine Barrow and Julien Gagne flew the coop and carved out clear-cut solo victories in Hico, Texas.
Gagne claimed the men’s 147 mile (237km) race with 6,285 feet (1916m) of climbing in 6:34:22 with Niki Terpstra nearly three minutes back in second and Adam Roberge close behind in third. It was a long solo that led the Canadian to victory, with Gagne taking off after the group had thinned to around ten riders when there was still more than 100km left to go.
Barrow built an even bigger gap on her nearest rival as she covered the slightly …
HOUSTON (KIAH) – May is National Bicycle Safety Month. Every year, thousands of children suffer head injuries from falling off their bikes, which is why it’s so important for them to wear a helmet. And not just any helmet, but one that fits.
“It should ride about one inch above your eyebrows, and the biggest mistake you see in the suburbs is the kids riding with it on the back of their head,” notes Richard So, MD, pediatrician for Cleveland Clinic Children’s. “That’s not going to protect your child. It should be like …
We are in the middle of National Bike Month, and cycling enthusiasts love to talk up the benefits of their favorite activity.
“It’s definitely my longevity drug,” says Brooks Boliek, 65, an avid cyclist of many decades, who used to commute to his office on a bicycle.
A substantial body of evidence supports the health benefits of cycling, everything from strengthening the immune system to boosting the likelihood of living longer. Now, a new study finds people who are in the habit of riding a bike are significantly less likely to have osteoarthritis and experience pain in their knees by age 65, compared to people who don’t bike.
The study, which was funded in part by the National Institutes of Health, and published in the American College of Sports Medicine’s flagship peer-reviewed journal, included …

A Giro d’Italia rest day allowed me to start today’s bike ride a little earlier at 10:05 AM. Plenty of sunshine, light wind, and 85 degrees made for good biking. I rode north to Roman Forest Blvd. where I made the u-turn under US59 and headed back to Kingwood. I explored a new street in West Tavola and then rode to US59. I call this the New Caney – Roman Forest Blvd – Oakhurst route. Now I biked this route 5 ties this year and I rode my Canyon Endurace CF 7 bike today. Biking 35 miles is average for the route. I only need 197 miles to reach my 749 mile goal for May. My legs felt good. The link to the AXS.SRAM.com ride report. I made 21 rear derailleur shifts. Not much terrain changes requiring shifting. Finished at 12:50 PM, sooner than usual.
These photos are at Valley Ranch Parkway and TX 99.
Weather: Start 85 degrees, humidity 71%, dew point 75.1, cloud cover 36%, wind SSE 7 mph; Finish 87 degrees, humidity 62%, dew point 72.7, cloud cover 24%, wind SE 8 mph. The weather forecast for the coming week looks better than last week. No freak storms.

Station Mountain is a downhill mountain bike park in the Austin, TX, area that was built by a teen entrepreneur and several investors. Now the investors are selling the 128 acres the park is on, and according to the owner, this was all part of the plan. Is this a good investment? I have no idea, but I’m here to check it out.

Jolene rigged 34/17 – bike and body felt good. Paced Freddie round the start loop, which put a big gap on those behind, then Freddie took off and I was on my own, apart from when Todd caught me a few miles into the singletrack after I had an incident extracting my pants from the sharp bits of my seat. Was able to gap him again OK. Good turnout and great to hang out with everyone
