I rode north today with the wind and paid the toasted legs price getting back to Kingwood. Rolling out at 10:34 AM on my Canyon Endurace CF 7 bike the route, New Caney – Roman Forest – Valley Ranch, was one I had not rode since October 20th, 2023. I nibbled around the edge of Roman Forest on recent rides into Tavola. After a long absence I wondered if anything changed. Biking through Tavola brought me to Roman Forest Blvd. As I turned right and crossed Peach Creek the Roman Forest sign in the median was the same as the last time. I rode Magnolia Bend to Willoway then Dogwood Lane to Appian Way. Galaxy Blvd. south to the first crossover and then a u-turn crossing Appian Way was how I rode to Roman Forest Blvd. to begin the journey to US59. Up that point the wind wasn’t much of an issue though I felt it was stronger than the 12 mph when I started. The ordeal began as I made the left turn under US59 into the wind. My legs had no zip and I shifted to the 35×15 gears to try and compensate. Making the turn onto Valley Ranch Parkway gave me a short relief until passing the Randall Reed Stadium. Under TX 99 I took a 15 minute break to rest, eat a granola bar, and enjoy the breeze in the shade. Back on the bike the 2 miles to FM1314 was a slow ride into the wind. A couple places with tree on the left side of the road helped. Through Briar Tree and entering Oakhurst I watched the spot where the dog spring happened Sunday but thankfully the dog was absent. My legs were doubtful if it was there. I pedaled on back to Kingwood and finished at 2:29 PM.
Photos from the Tavola pool. A lady was kind enough to take the one with me in it.

Monday bike rides normally go north but today I rode south and east on the Kingwood – Stoker Road – Kingwood route. I should’ve started a little earlier than 10:35 AM but I watched the end of stage 2 of the Critérium du Dauphine. Glad it wasn’t that foggy here. It was almost a month since my previous ride on this route though last week I traveled nearly to Stroker Road on FM2100. I rode my Cervelo Caledonia bike. Before the ride I used the Fanttik portable electric pump to air up the tire. I want to get familiar using the pump. I added a side street off Pinehurst Trail Drive to the route increasing the distance from the previous ride with 45.65 miles today. This gets me a little above the pace to reach June’s goal. Some exciting moments riding west on Stroker Road around mile 29 when two dogs chased me. I didn’t record this sprint audio because I was pedaling hard to get ahead of the large barking dog. The small one was more of an observer. That’s two dog sprints on the last two bike rides. That’s plenty. I took a rest break at the Dollar General on FM2100 around 32 miles. The ladies at Dollar General were very friendly helping me find the Gatorade and asking about my ride. I needed energy replacement after the wind on Ramsey Road and the dog sprint. I finished the bike ride at 2:34 PM.
People riding bikes and hiking along the Mission Reach on the San Antonio River will often notice small planes circling the area, taking off and landing from the city’s tiny Stinson Field airport on the South Side.
Connecting to the airport is a 1-mile concrete loop trail through a 63-acre patch of city-owned forested property. While the trail itself is short, its connection to …
