It could’ve been worse but my curiosity got the better of me. Its been several weeks since my encounter with the mud under FM1960 on the Atascocita Hike and Bike Trail between W. Lake Houston Parkway and Farmingham Road. I decided today I would check if the mud was still there. I made the change on the Atascocita – Walden – Huffman route to go on the hike and bike trail rather than the usual streets to the east. The video shows what I encountered so no need to duplicate here. The start was about 20 minutes earlier than yesterday as I rode away on my Cervelo Caledonia at 9:33 AM. The temperature was about 84 and the humidity 80% making for a muggy bike ride. Wind never got above the single digits settling around 5 to 6 mph. When I stopped at the pool on Atascocita Shores Drive I learned why the Unbound Ride people carry wooden paint stir sticks to scrape off the mud which is what I did with a stick. Three children were walking by and we chatted before they continued to the basketball court. Now in the know about the mud I rode on to FM2100 and Huffman. I finished the ride at 12:36 PM and then washed the Cervelo to get rid of the mud. While I washed a window survey young man came up and we talked about bike gears while I scrubbed. Maybe next week I’ll check on the mud again.

Houston resident sues local driver for negligence after bicycle collision
By Southeast Texas Record | setexasrecord.com
A Houston resident has filed a lawsuit following a serious collision involving a bicycle and a truck. Nolan Joseph Breaux, Jr. lodged the complaint against Ana Julia Merino Martinez in the District Court of Harris County, Texas on May 30, 2024.
According to the court documents, the incident occurred on June 28, 2023, in the parking lot of Del Lago Apartments located at 9800 Hollock Street, Houston. Breaux alleges that he was struck by Martinez’s white 1999 Ford Work XL F250 truck while walking his bicycle down a designated handicap ramp. The impact left him pinned under the vehicle for several minutes until Martinez’s son-in-law moved the truck to free him.
Breaux contends that Martinez was driving recklessly and at an excessive speed within the …

Exploring New Horizons: The FM1485 to The Highlands Route
I extended the ride into The Highlands compared to my first visit on May 22nd. Also I altered the route on the way to The Highlands riding north to FM1485 before making the u-turn back to Valley Ranch connecting with FM1314. May 22nd was 37.87 miles and today I biked 42.2 miles. I rode to the end of the main street at the golf club building and then retraced the streets back to FM1314. The ride began at 9:51 AM which is earlier than most weekday bike rides. The extensive greenbelt trail wove among the trees giving me some shade from the hot sun on the way to the golf club. On the way back I rode mostly on the street. Back on FM1314 I stopped at the Sorters Road Circle K for ice and blue PowerAde. It took about 10 minutes to eat a snack, drink the PowerAde, and enjoy some shade. I was back home at 1:29 PM. The new route name: FM1485 – The Highlands – Oakhurst. While I was biking Strava alerted me about losing the Local Legend on Eastward to 2100 to Wilbert K. That segment is on FM1960 from Lake Houston to FM2100 in Huffman. Wilbert’s 3 rides beat my 2 rides in the last 90 days.
Weather: Start 84 degrees, humidity 78%, dew point 76.9, broken clouds, wind NNW 1 mph; @ Circle K Sorters Road 91 degrees, humidity 56%,dew point 73, partly cloudy, wind N 6 mph; Finish 89 degrees, humidity 65%, dew point 75.9, mostly cloudy, wind N 5 mph. The north wind felt a little cooling and the headwind wasn’t that strong.

Bikers stampede on the Chisholm Trail
BY LARRY CAUSEY | www.tdtnews.com
BELTON — On a relatively cool Saturday morning, 103 cyclists pedaled their way through rural Bell County in the 13th annual Stampede on the Chisholm Trail, sponsored by the Belton Lions Club.
All routes started and finished at the Hike and Bike Trail on Nolan Creek. Heading west at the outset, the riders turned south and made a rough circle, said Karen Stagner, club secretary. The route was set up for rides of 12, 30, 55 and 62 miles.
“The majority of them are dong the 62,” she said. “It’s not a race. It’s just a ride in the beautiful Central Texas countryside.”
The bike ride allows the Lions Club to provide scholarships for Belton-area children who qualify for …

On June 6, 2024, Dr. James P. Stanley of Atlanta, Texas heard his Lord and Savior say, “Well done, thou good and faithful servant.” James Stanley was born on October 25, 1929 in Cass, Texas to Louis and Otelia Stanley. Originally, James attended Texas State Teacher’s College acquiring his degree and teacher certification. After a brief stint of teaching, he enlisted in the U.S. Air Force. After graduation, he moved his family back to Atlanta where he practiced dentistry. Later he completed the orthodontics program at Baylor College of Dentistry and practiced in Atlanta for 32 years where he appreciated hard work, his patients, and the profession. … Dr. Stanley loved challenging bicycle races well into his eighties, even riding his bike from Atlanta to Hot Springs, AR “just for fun.” He enjoyed a good cup of Yuban coffee, intense ping pong matches, restoring his 1963 Corvette Stingray convertible, and tinkering on engines of all kinds. …
Bicyclist arrested after driver claims he threatened her, damaged her vehicle
By Juan Betancourt | dentonrc.com
Denton police arrested a 32-year-old Saturday who they say struck a woman’s vehicle with his bicycle, threatened her and had methamphetamine in his possession.
At about 2:52 p.m. Saturday, officers responded to a disturbance in the 3900 block of Morse Street.
The woman told police a man had ripped off her side mirror, spit on her window and had a knife in his backpack.
She drove to the location to visit a friend at work. She then saw the man on a bicycle and said he made a wide turn into the parking lot and struck the driver’s side of the vehicle. …
