After a 2 month absence today I rode the Kingwood to Ramsey Road – Huffman route with a few alterations. Wheels rolling at 10:08 AM on the Canyon Endurace CF 7 bike. After riding in the rain yesterday I packed a plastic bag for my phone and GoPro camera in case I got caught again. When I reached Farmingham Road I took a side trip to check on the mud under FM1960 on the Atascocita Hike and Bike Trail. The mud is gone thanks to the Harris county Precinct 3 maintenance crew. That makes future rides there more pleasurable. Getting to Ramsey Road required pedaling into a easterly 14 mph and 21 mph gust headwind. My legs powered me there and the turnaround made a nice tailwind back to FM2100. The route alterations and side trip upped the distance to 42.4 miles compared to the average 39.8 miles. That helps to offset Monday’s short indoor ride. The week totals 131.3 miles and 654.9 road miles for the month (72% of my goal).

In the footage shared by eye-witness @auroramyst on X, formerly Twitter, the unsuspecting cyclists can be seen riding in the right-hand lane when the vehicle approached them from behind. As the two riders lay injured on the road, the reckless driver ran over one of them.
The witness, who shared the ordeal online, revealed that other cyclists chased down the vehicle, leading to the driver’s arrest. “Content Warning: Please watch for bicyclists. The city’s bike share system will cease operations at the end of June.
Houston’s 12-year-old public bike share system will end operations at the end of June, reports Adam Zuvanich for Houston Public Media. Despite recent hopes that the city would end up with two systems, Houston BCycle, the network’s operator, says it cannot afford to keep the system running any longer.
Now, plans for METRO, the city’s transit agency, to start its own bike share system are also in jeopardy. According to Zuvanich, “METRO’s board of directors voted last September to spend $10 million on a five-year bike-sharing contract with Quebec-based PBSC Urban Solutions. But it is unclear whether the transit agency, which has since …

At first it was promising, then not promising and then promising again. That describes today’s bike ride. I started at 10:56 AM riding my Cervelo Caledonia bike. I waited for the streets to dry some after some light rain earlier. I planned on biking north following the Kingwood – FM1485 – Kingwood route. Yesterday I didn’t think biking outdoors would happen because of rain but the rain stopped and the streets dried off. It was promising until Log Orchard Lane in Woodridge Forest. I rounded the turn and saw rain up ahead. That’s when it wasn’t promising anymore. I turned around and pedal hard to the Woodridge Forest Pool but not fast enough. The rain caught me and I got soaked. It looked like the rain would last for awhile but it slowed and then stopped. The streets were wet but it was promising again and I left the sanctuary of the pool cover. At first I said to myself ride to Brooklyn Trails and see if the rain stays away. I got there and no rain. The next goal was FM1314, no rain there. Somewhere between FM1314 and TX99 the damp road turned to dry like it hadn’t rained so the plan was to continue to New Caney, ride under US59 on the south side of Caney Creek and then ride south. That’s what happened. On Valley Ranch Parkway the damp road reappeared but no rain. I rode through Briar Tree, Oakhurst, Kings Manor and into Kingwood but to the south the overcast sky looked like it might rain. I finished at 1:45 PM with no more rain. I washed the Cervelo and not long after it started raining. But I was inside now.

The impact of an altruistic high school teacher can go far, but for Avery Wong, a neuroscience and Plan II sophomore, the impact went extremely far — over 4000 miles, to be exact.
On May 25, Wong departed on a summer-long bike ride from Austin to Alaska along with 75 other riders on the Texas 4000, the world’s longest annual charity bike ride. From a passion for funding research initiatives to a desire to spread hope for people affected by cancer, riders with the student-run nonprofit vary in their motivations.
In cycling, there’s a section of the pedal stroke from 12 o’clock to 6 o’clock known as the power phase. It’s the period when a cyclist produces the highest amount of muscular power in order to propel the bike forward. On the weekend of April 27-28, NRG’s cycling team put their pedal strokes to the test and completed a monumental ride commemorating two decades of participation in the Texas MS 150.
The Bike MS fundraising program has been in operation for 40 years. It has raised an incredible $1.4 billion to fuel the National Multiple Sclerosis Society’s mission to cure MS, and it has enabled the research that has resulted in every MS treatment option available today. This ride is big.
Capstone project aims to enhance pedestrian, bicycle and scooter safety amid growing use of low-speed vehicles on campus.
Eight seniors in the Texas A&M University School of Public Health used their capstone course project to analyze the growing use of skateboards, bicycles and scooters as well as personal electric vehicles on the university’s sprawling campus. Many of the team’s recommendations are being considered for implementation by Texas A&M’s administration to make the campus a safer place for pedestrians, bikes and other wheeled devices, and full-size vehicles.

LUBBOCK, Texas — The National Multiple Sclerosis Society holds an event every year called Bike MS where people bike 150 miles over the span of two days along with fundraising to help with research, programs and their ultimate mission to find the cure for the disease. The one for West Texas is called Cactus and Crude and one of the fundraisers focused on flocking houses.
The cyclist leading this fundraiser was Pamela Kiowski who is in a biking group called the Carney Men. Kiowski came up with this idea and went to put a bunch of plastic flamingos in people’s front yards. Whoever got their yard flocked, would pay for someone else’s lawn to get plastic flamingos all over it. …
