The plan for today’s bike ride was the Spring Creek Greenway to City Place, back to the San Jacinto Bayou Greenway. I rode this route once before on Memorial Day May 27th. This would be my June bike ride on the greenway. Rolling away at 9:24 AM on my Canyon Endurace CF 7 bike. The ride suffered the first incident when I dropped the GoPro camera while putting it back on the mount about half a mile into the ride. The wireless mic receiver unit split open and I feared it wouldn’t work. I snapped the pieces back together, lo and behold it worked. Thank you Lord. With that incident behind me I rode through Forest Cove, Hamblen Road, over the Bevill Jarrell Bridge and approached the US59 trailhead to the Spring Creek Greenway. It was blocked off with an excavator digging in front of the gate. The sign sign said closed June 24 – June 28. So much for the planned ride. From there I improvised a route heading north through Kingwood Place, Oakhurst, Briar Tree, and Forest Colony. Not the same streets as the Forest Cove – Oakhurst – Forest Colony route but close enough. All was well until I turned onto Knox Street from the US59 frontage road. The mount attached to the GoPro broke crashing the GoPro and wireless mic to the pavement again. Those two had a rough ride! More scratches on the GoPro media mod but the wireless mic didn’t crack open this time. I put the GoPro in my jersey pocket and continued the ride into Woodridge Forest, Sherwood Trails, and Elm Grove finishing at 12:08 PM, relieved the GoPro and mic survived.

Weekday Ride On Sunday, 7th 200+ Mile Week In A Row
Most of my Sunday bike rides don’t venture too far from Kingwood due to the late start. Today I broke the mold and rode my Kingwood-Community Drive-Valley Ranch route, more of a weekday ride. The last time I rode this route was April 5th, 2023, though the routes are not identical. Starting after church on my Lynskey Helix bike at 1:27 PM it was hot. Fortunately the humidity was “only” 63%, not the 90% on yesterday. I rode a steady pace but not pushing it too hard. The cold water from my CamelBak taste good. Passing through the shade felt cooler. A good ride to finish the week. I rode each day but one was inside for a total of 234.62 miles. I’m getting closer to my 908 mile goal for the month with 758.2 miles (83% of the way there).

City cycles through options on Mallard Lane bike traffic
EDIE ZUVANICH | www.taylorpress.net
Three options to revamp the city’s bike thoroughfares on Mallard Lane moved along this past week at the Taylor City Council, including one suggestion with a $2 million price tag that involves resurfacing the road.
No action was taken on the issue at the June 13 meeting, session, though nearly 20 residents and cycling enthusiasts signed up to air their opinions.
Taylor’s comprehensive plan calling for the addition of bike lanes on city streets has continually come under fire since the rubber met the road and lanes were actually created.
“We have a comprehensive plan that asks for …
