Strava didn’t show any matched rides because of the changes I made early in the ride. I rode north to Community Drive, circled east to Loop 494, back to US59 and then into Valley Ranch. Emerging from Valley Ranch I rode to FM1314 and then NW to Cumberland Blvd. At the entrance sign to The Highlands I made the u-turn to go back to FM1314 and ride SE. I stopped at the Circle K for ice ad blue PowerAde. While drinking the PowerAde I sat in the shade with a light breeze cooling me even though I was outside. Refreshed I got back on my Cervelo Caledonia bike rode to Old Sorters Road through Briar Tree, Oakhurst, Kingwood Place and back to US59. With 6 miles left I made the u-turn under US59 at Kingwood Drive, back to Loop 494 and into Kings Manor. Kingwood was a few streets away. After starting at 10:14 AM I finished at 1:36 PM. This followed mostly the Community Drive – Cumberland – Oakhurst route. The last time I used this route was July 3rd. Today’s 36.72 miles pushed August miles to 411.78, ahead of the pace I need to reach the 904 mile goal. I’m 46% of the way there.
My arm sleeves were coated with salt when I finished. The heat and sun are strong. Weather: Start 90 degrees, humidity 69%, dew point 78.1, partly cloudy, wind W 5 mph; @Circle K 92 degrees, humidity 56%, dew point 74, partly cloudy, wind SE 5 mph; Finish 94 degrees, humidity 59%, dew point 77.4, cloud cover 37%, wind ESE 8 mph.
South and east to Spanish Cove Drive. I skirted around the trees and brush blocking the trail beside Kingwood Drive. Later a CenterPoint truck blocked the trail beside W. Lake Houston Parkway. The ride deviated from the typical Atascocita – Walden – Spanish Cove Drive route switching to the Atascocita Hike and Bike Trail from Kings Park Way to Farmingham Road. My legs felt sluggish today in the heat and high humidity. The wind was 5 to 6 mph not presenting too much resistance. When I reached Spanish Cove Drive the sky in the southeast looked like rain but nothing developed where I was. I rolled out at 10:18 AM and finished at 1:19 PM riding my Canyon Endurace CF 7 bike. Plenty of bike races slowed my departure. I rode 36.99 miles inching closer to the pace needed to reach my August goal. I’m 4 miles short of where I should be for 13 days: 375 vs. 379.

Headed north on the bike ride to Roman Forest Blvd. making the u-turn back there. During the ride I went through Woodridge Forest, Tavola West, Valley Ranch, Briar Tree, Oakhurst, Kings Manor, and back into Kingwood. I call this the New Caney – Roman Forest Blvd – Oakhurst route. The last time on this route was July 1st. I left at 10:10 AM on my Cervelo Caledonia bike. I’m happy to report the front disc adjustment has silenced the chirping with the wheel purring along. The wind was light but the temperature wasn’t. The ride ended at 1:22 PM. I stopped for a few minutes under TX99 to sip water, enjoy some shade and a light breeze at times. The 7Eleven at FM1314 allowed me to fill my water bottle with ice to get home.
