It took 2 videos to capture today’s bike ride because my electric burped several times and the last time my internet service didn’t restart quick enough so the livestream stopped. Thanks to OBS it started livestreaming again resulting part 2. Centerpoint Energy has trouble keeping the electricity on when the weather gets wet. Today was one of those days. Fortunately my computer is on a UPS and didn’t shut off.
The Zwift Play controllers arrived yesterday after I finished Zwifting. Today was the first ride with them. There are 12 buttons to push between the two of them and it took me awhile during the ride to figure out some of them. Maybe the next Zwift ride I will learn more of them.
Previous Zwift rides this week have been short so I chose the Watopia The Big Ring route for today’s ride. I rode this once before on October 30th. The two ride results were similar distance and the climbing was the same 883 feet of elevation gain. One big climb around 18 miles going up 326 feet. The rest of the ride was mostly flat to undulating small hills. The Big Ring is the longest “flat” route in Watopia which is why I ride it. I have not tackled any of the monster climb routes.
Using the Zwift Play controllers and the electricity problems distracted me on some of the sprints. I set a new Zwift PR on the Acropolis sprint with 48.51. Strava found two others: PR on The Big Ring (1:57:03) and 3rd fastest time on Going Coastal (35:01).
The Austin Parks and Recreation Department does a lot of work in our parks. Maybe you’ve seen us out mowing turf, pruning trees, restocking bathrooms, cleaning graffiti, emptying trash, making repairs, or taking care of 100,000 other important tasks. Hundreds of City of Austin staff dedicate their careers to serving our 361 parks.
But we can’t do it all. The Department could never have enough funding or time to mulch every tree, pick up every scrap of litter, or weed out every invasive plant. We can’t give every park the playscape, dog-friendly water fountain, landscaping, ecological restoration, or art installation that Austinites have asked for. Austin Parks and Recreation wants more for our parks than we can give alone.
Luckily, the Department is not alone. In the gap between what we can do and what Austinites deserve, we have PARKners. …

Think you got the legs for this one? Endurance is the name of the game as participants compete to finish two 19.5-mile laps at Flat Rock Ranch for some sweet singletrack goodness. Bring your climbing legs, because there will be a lot of it! If that seems like too much, we also have a half-marathon category as well. The STORM Miles of DisComfort MTB Marathon is the final race of the 2023/24 Hill Country Bicycle Works Texas Marathon Mountain Bike State Championship Series.
The 2023 Jingle Bells ride is next week, 6 p.m. Wednesday, Dec. 6. The ride will leave from the parking lot at MSU's Dillard, with refreshments, after. All ages are welcome to ride: lights and helmet are requiredhttps://t.co/v7gE8ApARq

Harris County Commissioner @RodneyEllis was perhaps the easiest location choice, as it was a given he would select a bike lane built by Pct. 1. You could practically still smell the paint on the Del Rio lane when he was ready to show it off for @MPhillip_hcpic.twitter.com/QTOub1XPAk
After riding in Watopia lately I switched to Zwift’s Makuri Islands. But to ride there I created a personal meetup. I chose the Wandering Flats route which is 15.6 miles with 476 feet of elevation. I wanted to ride more miles so I set the meetup at 22 miles. I wasn’t sure how that would impact the elevation so I checked the elevation around 7 miles into the ride and added that to 476 making my guess less that 600 feet. I wasn’t too far off with the actual at 587 feet and distance 22.12 miles. Compared to my road routes that average around 100 feet elevation this is a lot more climbing. The big climb started around 20km with 10% + and i was out of the saddle to get up that. The Wahoo Kickr Core trainer increased the resistance. It is more stable when I’m out of the saddle than the Kickr Snap on wheel trainer. I set a new Strava PR on Wandering Flats (57:42). My record is not close to the KOM leader but I am happy with my result.

As retailers brace for the holiday shopping season, 2023 is shaping up to be a good year for e-bikes in Austin.
Austin Energy stopped by City Council’s Mobility Committee meeting last week for an update on its e-bike rebate program, which kicked into high gear this past January with a resolution doubling rebate values. Preliminary data shows a spike from 2,606 to 3,464 participants since the increase, though staff say the final figure will likely be much higher.
“We typically run on a 60- to 90-day lag in application processing, just because of volume and a small operations staff,” said electric vehicles and emerging technologies manager Cameron Freberg. “We expect to more than double our participation since last year, just from that increase in incentive and the amount of new vehicles available in the market.”
The rebate program dates back to 2013 but has seen significant growth since the 2018 passage of …
PARIS – The Texas Department of Transportation today reminded Texans that the public comment period for two proposed improvement projects on State Loop 286 in Lamar County remains open through December 15.
The agency began studying long-term improvements to this roadway in 2018 and has shared both proposed projects with the public at open-house public meetings.
The Northeast Loop project would begin at Stillhouse Road and extend to Pine Mill Road. It would expand the roadway from two lanes to two high-speed, non-stop lanes and two low-speed, controlled access frontage roads in either direction. It would also add an overpass at North Collegiate Drive and improve safety by adding lighting, better drainage, and paths for bicycles and pedestrians.
This project would require additional right-of-way and, subject to …
A pack of wild hogs ran right through me. Locking up both wheels, I somehow managed to maneuver through them without falling and lightly glazing only one of them
Before the ride started the A and B guys got together and made a pact to ride together. Beads were exchanged and the peace pipe was smoked. But we know how this story goes. LOL. Actually it was only a few guys that rode off the front. The rest of us stayed together on the A route. Nice and chilly. Paceline on Murphy. Credit to Rudy for keeping things together.
I looked down at one point and my computer had stopped recording, not sure why. So I’m missing a couple of miles.
