Rouvy sent me an email with a one month 50% off discount code today. I went to the website to refresh my memory of Rouvy and in my account apparently a special offer showed my subscription was good until January 14, 2024. Looking at the route options I decided to ride Rouvy instead of Zwift. I wanted to ride around 20 miles with moderate climbing and the California Death Valley #2 route fit met my needs. I had three robot riders with me most of the 19.70 miles drifting behind and in front of me. They provided drafting when they were ahead. I took several screenshots in the Rouvy companion app but I don’t know where they went so no evidence from the ride other than the charts.

Students held a donation drive in support of the U.S. Marine Corps Reserve’s Toys for Tots program
Students at Xplor Preschool & School Age Care at Sendera Ranch in Haslet recently collected more than 300 toys and 16 bicycles to benefit Toys for Tots, a gift drive run by the U.S. Marine Corps Reserve. Over the past month, students worked together to collect the items, and at the close of the drive, a representative from the organization stopped by the school to pick up the donations. Through this initiative, students learned the importance of helping others in the community, especially during the holiday season.

Light winds, cool temperatures and sunshine greeted about 150 riders to Race #3. Before getting into how it played out I wanted to extend a big thank you to all those who made this race happen, Ryan at Huff Brewing for the venue, Back Roads BBQ for the food, David and Venny for photography Cyndi, Mike and Cynthia for the officiating, those who volunteered with packet pick up and Craig and his family for the hours they put in promoting and organizing the race. This years gross revenue was about $18k, obviously we have running costs to subtract but this will go a long way to helping the GHCF run it’s programs and grow the sport in the Greater Houston area this coming year. That leads me to my …

Delayed Starting 2024 Biking. Zwift – Watopia’s Waistband Route
My first ride of 2024 didn’t happen as soon as I wanted. My last ride was December 18th. On the 19th I took Amtrak from Longview TX to New York city to visit my daughter and son-in-law. I left New York city January 3rd on Amtrak arriving in Longview on January 5th. During my trip my sinuses became inflamed and delayed the returning to riding. Today I felt good enough to ride Zwift but not very hard. I still need more recovery.
I chose the Watopia’s Waistband route to test my condition and came through pretty good with a few coughs. I kept the fan off until around 10 minutes into the ride versus the typical 7 or 8 minutes and I left the ceiling van off. At first it was a little chilly but as I warmed up I didn’t notice it as much. Outside the temperature was in the mid 70’s but rain moved through several times making Zwift the only choice. With the delayed start in 2024 I’m behind on my goals but there is time to catch up.

Sherri decided to try to ride her brand new Specialized Roubaix with me, so I rode my Moots YBB mtb. We left from Joshua Sorings Park, crossed the interstate, and cut across a caliche road to Waring Welfare Rd. We then took a left and ride all the way to Hein Rd. Sherri was doing fairly well, but was unfamiliar with the bike, and the climbing was just too much. I rode back and got the truck and picked her up. She’s a very sweet girl to do this with and for me!

Idea for Fort Worth bicycle company took wing on a flight from Milan
by Seth Bodine | fortworthreport.org
Editor’s note: Made in Tarrant is an occasional Q&A series on small businesses started in Tarrant County. Submit your business here.
David Bradfield and Chris Watson came up with the idea for their bicycle accessory company on the flight back from Milan, Italy, after attending a trade show. They imagined they would be a wholesale company, but the thought of making their own carbon fiber water bottle holder sparked their inspiration for Arundel Bicycle Company in 2000. They sell their products online and in about 600 bike shops across the country.
The Fort Worth Report spoke to Bradfield and Watson about their company, and their advice for entrepreneurs. …
