Pedaling the Compass: A Northward Ride on the Lynskey Helix
Monday to the west, Tuesday to the east and today I rode north. The sky looked damp as I rolled out at 9:47 AM on my Lynskey Helix bike on the New Caney – Roman Forest Blvd – Oakhurst route. The previous time I rode this route was August 12th though Strava did not consider that a matched ride. I did alter the first 3 miles from the usual streets when I bike north extending the time in Hunters Ridge Village before crossing Northpark Drive into Elm Grove Village. The typical distance for this route in 2024 is about 35 miles and today I rode 35.62 miles. My legs felt good pedaling the Lynskey to the north despite a headwind and after making the u-turn at Roman Forest Blvd. I rode through Tavola West watching for changes since the last ride; more narrow homes completed and the recreation center now has two buildings taking shape. The clouds changed to a lighter gray by the time I rode south through Valley Ranch, Briar Tree, and Oakhurst. The flood control project in Briar Tree looks finished and ready for rain. The week stands at 123.82 miles and September is at 136 miles or 16% to the 866 mile goal. I have a small lead in the pace to the goal: 136 vs. 115.5. Tomorrow I’m thinking of biking south to complete the compass points.
