DCTA, Denton team up to fund bike lanes on McKinney Street, safer path on Riney, bus stop accessibility

The Denton County Transportation Authority announced plans to help fund six projects to provide safer transit for commuters — including those on foot and on bike — around Denton and Lewisville.
The projects total about $21.1 million, with $6.96 million being requested through DCTA’s Transportation Reinvestment Program (TRiP), which provides financial assistance to member cities for transit-related projects.
DCTA Planning Manager Karina Maldonado said one project is for Lewisville and five are the city of Denton. …

HOUSTON, Texas (KTRK) – Houston has never been known as a cyclist-friendly city, but that doesn’t mean the demand for a bike share program ceases to exist.
“It’s just one way people can get around in the city,” Charles Sechrengost said while walking around Montrose Wednesday afternoon.
Mofa Ali echoed those thoughts to ABC13 shortly thereafter.

The Texas Department of Transportation is asking for the public’s opinion on potential roadway improvements along Highway 21 ,including adding additional lanes as well as accommodations for bicycles and pedestrians. A public meeting will be held on Thursday, Aug. 29 to hear feedback on the project’s plans. …

TxDOT’s project development process includes conducting an environmental analysis and development of schematic design concepts, which support potential solutions for the future traffic demands and safety improvements within the corridor. Folks Middle School student hospitalized after being hit while biking to school

SAN ANTONIO – A middle school student was hospitalized after being hit while riding his bike to school early Wednesday morning.
The incident happened around 7:30 a.m. near Swayback Ranch and Mill Park in Far West Bexar County.
Bexar County Sheriff’s deputies said the student from Folks Middle School sustained non-life threatening injuries, but was taken to the hospital for treatment.
The driver stopped and cooperated with the investigation. The driver is not facing any charges.
