Cyclists, scooters, pedestrians jockey for control of Galveston’s seawall

Safety at stake as some call for a dedicated lane for skaters and e-cyclists
Galveston has very little in the way of rules governing traffic on the seawall. Not the four-lane boulevard used by motor vehicles, to be sure, but the sidewalk erected after the Great Storm of 1900. At a contiguous 10.3 miles, apparently it’s the longest of its kind in the entire U.S.
At dawn or dusk, the vista across the Gulf of Mexico can be so stunning it’s hard to imagine wanting to be anywhere else but that sidewalk, or ever wanting to leave. Cycling advocates are calling on the city to keep momentum going when it comes to safety
SAN ANTONIO – It’s a conversation picking up speed in San Antonio: bike safety.
Just two weeks ago, a 63-year-old woman riding her bike was hit and killed by a vehicle on the city’s South Side.
And then, just days later, on the west side, a cyclist was sent to the hospital with life-threatening injuries after being hit by a vehicle at Loop 1604 and Culebra.

Sugar Land holds cycling festival

Shred de Sugar Cycling Festival will be held here in Sugar Land in mid-September.
The opening day’s events will be Short Track XC. These bicycle races have specific times and prizes will be awarded to the winners. The day will feature 15-, 20-, 40-, and 50-minute races for men and women. Racing begins at 10:20 am, with the last one beginning at 5:42 pm.
The second day’s agenda will be Cyclo-Cross. It will start at 10:20 am and the last race will begin at 3:02 pm.

Name Of Bicylist Killed Released

Silsbee police have identified a bicyclist that was struck and killed by a vehicle Saturday afternoon. 53-year old Kevin Gould, of Silsbee, was riding his bike on FM 418 in Silsbee when he was hit. He died at the scene. The driver of the vehicle. 39-year old Kevin Sapp is charged with intoxication manslaughter. His bond is set at $500,000.

Over the weekend it was the annual Hotter’N Hell Hundred in Wichita Falls. Where thousands of folks took part in the annual ride throughout Texoma. The Hotter’N Hell Hundred got it’s start in 1982 to celebrate the centennial of Wichita Falls and it looks like the show ‘The Eyes of Texas’ showed our annual ride some love in 1988. …

The brimming legacy of a life well lived is stitched into the remarkable story of Dennis V. Thompson. He was the first-born child of Martha (Sprugel) Thompson and Archie Thompson, arriving on a cold day in December of 1945 in Iowa Falls, Iowa.
