Testing the Saturday Setup: A Modified Weekday Ride
I dialed back the distance and improved the start time to 8:57 AM. Since I won’t ride the usual Saturday route (Atascocita – Huffman – Walden) I rode it today with some modifications to stretch the mileage to at least 35. I rode my Canyon Endurace CF 7 bike with the DT Swiss wheels and tires I will use on Saturday to test the setup in case there are any changes needed. No changes needed. When I got to Kingwood Park High School traffic was heavy (Thursday is a late start day but I forgot) so I took Woodland Hills Drive north to Woodridge Forest to Northpark Drive. I stayed on the usual streets in North Woodland Hills Village and Bear Branch Village until turning off Tree Lane to add distance and avoid the covered greenbelt trail on Kingwood Drive. Through Town Center, W. Lake Houston Parkway south to Kings River Drive. Since I wasn’t expecting to see other cyclists I rode on Sunny Shores Drive to Rebawood Drive to Atascocita Shores Drive. At FM1960 I stopped at the Shell station to remove the sunscreen irritating my left eye and nose. Crossing Lake Houston road construction moved all the traffic onto the shoulder just before Fairlake Lane. The wind was from the SE resulting in a headwind until I turned left at FM2100 to head Huffman. On FM1960 west at the construction area traffic had 1 lane not needing the shoulder. At Atascocita Shores Drive I was tempted to stop at the Chevron station before looping through Walden but resisted because I was making good time and wanted to finish the ride before noon which I did at 11:57 AM. The week totals 154.43 miles. Saturday I plan on riding the 100k route which should make it a 200+ week. Weather: Start 82 degrees, humidity 79%, dew point 74.6, mostly cloudy, wind E 5 mph; Finish 91 degrees, humidity 64%, dew point 77,3, mostly cloudy, wind SE 8 mph.
