Oh So Close, Another Try Tomorrow: Atascocita – Walden – Huffman. ’55 T-Bird In Distress
Oh so close to starting before 9 AM. Another try tomorrow. I headed off at 9:01 AM on my Cervelo Caledonia bike. I wanted the ride to go 40 miles so I adjusted yesterday’s route some going through Elm Grove Village but not riding to Spanish Cove Drive. Instead I stayed on Old Atascocita Road east of FM2100 and made the u-turn at 2 J’s or Sheldon Services, not sure which name is correct from the sign. Those changes were enough for 40.38 miles and the week now totals 117.94 miles. For the month I’m up to 634.52 or 70% of the way to my goal. Even though the distance is above the average the route name is Atascocita – Walden – Huffman. Looking back over 2024 and 2023 the average distance is 34 to 35 miles. I stopped at the Chevron store at Atascocita Shores Drive and FM1960 for a 10 minute rest in the shade and breeze. The dew point was 4 degrees lower than yesterday giving a cooling effect despite the 92 degrees. On the way back my left eye started stinging maybe from sunscreen getting in it. I made a stop at the Chevron in Huffman to get some relief. While I was there three people pushed a ’55 Ford Thunderbird into the station from where it stalled on FM1960. Before leaving I rode over and talked to the owner. The video has more about the 69 year old T-Bird. My eye felt better and I rode west over Lake Houston and back to Kingwood finishing at 12:38 PM. My CamelBak still had cold water at the finish. I’ll be counting on it for the HH100 Saturday.
