‘Faster and faster’: Hotter’N Hell’s 10k race sets stage for next generation of cyclists

WICHITA FALLS (KFDX/KJTL) — One hundred miles stands as the namesake for the biggest bike ride in Texoma. The Hotter N’ Hell Hundred pits riders against triple-digit heat and 100 miles of Texoma roads.
But not everyone can take on a hundred-mile bike ride in those conditions. Which is why Amy Hamlin says the Hotter’N Hell has the 10k, too.
“It’s more like a family affair. We see a lot of families, moms, dads, brothers, sisters, even babies,” Hamlin said. “We also see pets. We have a lot of dogs.”

The El Paso Holocaust Museum will host its 19th annual Tour de Tolerance beginning at 7:30 a.m. Sunday, Aug. 18, at Santa Teresa High School, 100 Airport Road in Santa Teresa, New Mexico. Events include a 50K bike ride, 5K run/walk, one-mile family fun walk, and a one-mile dog walk. The event is designed to unite participants against hate and injustice, with all proceeds benefiting the museum’s mission to combat prejudice and intolerance through education. Doris Jean Woodward of Austin, TX (formerly The Villages, FL and Ann Arbor, MI) died Sunday, August 4, 2024, after a brief illness. Doris was born in Ypsilanti, MI to Harvey and Bessie Sanderson on December 31, 1931. She graduated from Ann Arbor High School in 1950 and married Gary Woodward in 1953. Doris was a lifelong member of Dixboro United Methodist Church in Ann Arbor, MI, where she sang in their choirs from a young age. Doris worked as a bookkeeper for a surgeon’s office for 25 years. After retirement, she and Gary moved to The Villages, FL in 1998, she joined North Lake Presbyterian Church, where she also sang in the choir. She was also an avid quilter, painter, square and round dancer, 4-H and Boy Scout leader, gardener, and stained-glass artist. Gary and Doris were members of The Wheelmen, an antique bicycle club, and traveled to all seven continents before Gary’s death in 2006. …
Cove House Classic raises funds for homeless shelter

With the sun just starting to rise, 50 riding enthusiasts made their way from the 1st Baptist Church pedaling their way down Avenue B with some participants riding more than 60 miles before completing their journey.
The race was part of the annual Cove House Classic Bike Tour which offered races ranging from 26 miles to 66.3 miles. Some racers opted to ride to Topsey and back for a shorter, unofficial version of the race. The bike tour featured seven rest stops along the way.
Jesus Rivera and husband and wife duo, Priscilla and Erick Rendon, drove all the way from San Antonio to participate in the Cove House Classic. The three planned to complete the 62-mile ride. …
