Completing What I Started Last Thursday: Atascocita South – Walden – Huffman
I rode the route that I didn’t complete last Thursday when I crashed, Atascocita South – Walden – Huffman. Before the ride I looked up my last ride on the route and learned it was 2 months ago on June 13th. I altered the part of the route passing through the crash scene to avoid the trees and brush blocking the trail. On the way back to not ride on the same streets I rode north along W. Lake Houston Parkway from Rustic Woods to the trail under W. Lake Houston Parkway. I have this thing about riding the same streets. Maybe I’ll get over it someday. The bike was different this time, Canyon Endurace CF 7. I rolled out at 10:08 AM after watching stage 5 of the Tour de France Femmes avec Zwift planning to watch the other races after my ride. I modified the new Osprey Katari hydration pack. I noticed the ice melting sooner than the CamelBak. To counter that I added a layer of thin foam between the bladder and the fabric facing the sun. I think it helped some. It was hot and the sun glared brightly. I stopped for a break at the Chevron station at Atascocita Shores Drive at FM1960. Sitting in the shade enjoying the breeze and sipping cool water made it hard to get back on the Canyon bike but I did it. The heat took a toll sapping my speed until I finished at 1:31 PM.
