Cove House hosts annual Bike Tour fundraiser

COPPERAS COVE — Fifty riders met at First Baptist Church in Cove at dawn to compete Saturday in the Cove House Classic Bike Tour.
Riders from distant parts of Texas joined the tour, including San Antonio, Austin, Waco, McGregor, and Mansfield.
“We get people from all over Texas participating in this event,” Cove House Marketing Director Joelle Carter said. “It’s one of our biggest events of the year.”

The League of American Bicyclists is holding its annual Bicycle Friendly Community Public Survey to gauge a national census of Americans’ experiences and perceptions of riding a bike in different communities across the U.S., including Richardson. Anyone who’s spent enough time in Houston has seen at least one ghost bike. The stark-white bicycles serve a grim reminder of the perils of Houston’s car-centric infrastructure.
James Midkiff was riding his bike on a cool evening in late 2023 when he was struck by a driver in a white sedan. They didn’t stop to help, and the 36-year-old died from his injuries.
