Austin’s bustling Rainey Street gets new 2-acre park and trailhead

Rainey Street, the gateway between the urban bustle of downtown and the more picturesque riverbed, now has more access to that natural beauty. The Rainey Street Trailhead, opening with a public celebration on July 13, joins a new two-acre park with the Ann & Roy Butler Hike-and-Bike Trail, which is almost always undergoing some kind of improvements along the Colorado River.

Video: Police chief: San Juan drug bust a result of department’s bike patrol division

Four men were arraigned on drug charges on Friday following raids at two different homes, according to San Juan Police Chief Leandro Sifuentes Jr.
The men – identified as Gilberto Garza, Juan Carlos Treviño, Javier Azuara Meza and Erick Bugarin — were arrested after nearly 10 pounds of marijuana, $26,000 in cash and half a kilo of cocaine were confiscated at the homes.
Sifuentes Jr. said police started the investigation after their bike patrol division received a tip of the drug activity at the homes.
The San Juan Police Department created the bike patrol division in 2023. According to Sifuentes Jr., four officers were assigned to ride through neighborhoods, and build relationships with the community. …
Video: Cyclist logs 7,000 miles for cancer cure

EL PASO, Texas (KVIA) – Javier Padilla is on a mission to cure cancer. He is part of a group that set off on a 7,000 mile cross country bike ride. It’s called the Texas 4000.
“I joined because of the effects cancer has had on my family and friends. When my mom was in high school, her mother passed from cancer and my cousin was diagnosed in his freshman year of college,” Padilla says.
Money raised by donations will be used to raise awareness for better research and support services for cancer patients and their families.

University of Texas students bring cancer fundraising bicycle ride to the Peace Country

Twenty three University of Texas students have brought a cycling fund raiser for cancer research to the Peace Country.
The group left Austin, Texas in late May on their leg of the Texas 4000 for Cancer bike ride and arrived in Grande Prairie on Friday, July 12.
