Sushi is the spoils of victory in an eccentric bike race across the West Texas desert
The conditions must be perfect: It has to take place during the hottest part of the year, the moon needs to be full to aid with visibility, and, most importantly, it cannot be a weekday. When all of these circumstances are met, then, and only then, do the residents of Marfa rally to shoulder the burdensome task of bringing sushi to their small West Texas town.
To be more specific, it’s not exactly sushi—it’s sashimi. And if we’re nitpicking, it’s not even in Marfa proper. It’s precisely 31.07 miles outside the city center.

Bike Advisory Council urges city to protect ghost bikes

The Bicycle Advisory Council is calling on the city to protect ghost bike installations after a cycling safety group reported four bikes they put up in the last few months were removed.
Volunteers with the Austin Ghost Bike Project have placed at least 10 ghost bikes – painted white and attached to a nearby sign or post – at locations where bicyclists have been killed by motorists to memorialize them and remind motorists to drive safely. But in recent months, a few of the ghost bikes have been removed with no explanation given, though members believe the removals are likely from maintenance and construction crews.

Big Spring PD looking for bike theft suspect

BIG SPRING, Texas (KMID/KPEJ) – The Big Spring Police Department is asking the public for assistance in identifying a suspect involved in a theft earlier this month.
Big Spring PD said that at about 3:30am on Wednesday, June 19, the suspect was seen taking a bicycle from the 1200 block of East 19th Street. The suspect was seen wearing a backpack at the time of the theft.

Killeen, Tx (FOX 44) – A 44-year-old Killeen man is being held in the Bell County Jail, accused of attacking a woman on the street and taking her bicycle.
Bond was set at $100,000 for David Dash, who is facing charges of second-degree felony robbery in this case.

AUSTIN, Texas — Construction will begin next week on a new bridge at Longhorn Dam in East Austin.
