Ride to Remember honors Charles and Lia McBride and raises safety awareness

Cyclists gathered in Hamilton Park to honor the late Charles Winget McBride and Lisa Kathleen McBride with a Ride to Remember on a recent evening.
About a year ago, the McBrides, a beloved couple in the local cycling community, were riding their bicycles when, according to court documents, they were struck from behind by a pickup in Clay County and died as a result of their injuries.

Bikers stampede on the Chisholm Trail

BELTON — On a relatively cool Saturday morning, 103 cyclists pedaled their way through rural Bell County in the 13th annual Stampede on the Chisholm Trail, sponsored by the Belton Lions Club.
All routes started and finished at the Hike and Bike Trail on Nolan Creek. Heading west at the outset, the riders turned south and made a rough circle, said Karen Stagner, club secretary. The route was set up for rides of 12, 30, 55 and 62 miles.
“The majority of them are dong the 62,” she said. “It’s not a race. It’s just a ride in the beautiful Central Texas countryside.”

On June 6, 2024, Dr. James P. Stanley of Atlanta, Texas heard his Lord and Savior say, “Well done, thou good and faithful servant.” James Stanley was born on October 25, 1929 in Cass, Texas to Louis and Otelia Stanley. Originally, James attended Texas State Teacher’s College acquiring his degree and teacher certification. After a brief stint of teaching, he enlisted in the U.S. Air Force. He took great pride in his service to his country achieving the rank of Lieutenant. After leaving the Air Force and working at Lone Star Steel, he continued his education at the Baylor College of Dentistry. After graduation, he moved his family back to Atlanta where he practiced dentistry. Later he completed the orthodontics program at Baylor College of Dentistry and practiced in Atlanta for 32 years where he appreciated hard work, his patients, and the profession. Above his professional successes, James valued the love of his life, Donna Beck Stanley, and expressed that sentiment to the end. …

Bicyclist arrested after driver claims he threatened her, damaged her vehicle

Denton police arrested a 32-year-old Saturday who they say struck a woman’s vehicle with his bicycle, threatened her and had methamphetamine in his possession.
At about 2:52 p.m. Saturday, officers responded to a disturbance in the 3900 block of Morse Street.
The woman told police a man had ripped off her side mirror, spit on her window and had a knife in his backpack.
She drove to the location to visit a friend at work. She then saw the man on a bicycle and said he made a wide turn into the parking lot and struck the driver’s side of the vehicle. …
