Houston’s Columbia Tap Trail still unlit and bleak as improvement plans sit on shelf

The historic 4-mile Columbia Tap Bike Trail that connects Third Ward to Brays Bayou and downtown looks no different now than a year ago when I wrote about the bleak hike-and-bike path.
There are no security lights, historical markers, protected crosswalks or other amenities. The only improvements are new solar-powered lights and sidewalks on a portion of the trail near the Cuney Homes housing complex funded by the Houston Housing Authority.

1 dead after pedestrian crash involving bicyclist in Lufkin

LUFKIN, Texas — One person is dead after a vehicle struck a man on a bicycle in Lufkin late Friday night.
According to the city of Lufkin, police are responding to a crash on North Timberland Drive at Homewood Drive. The northbound lanes in the area are expected to be closed for the next couple of hours.
People should avoid the area if possible and expect delays, the city of Lufkin said.
