‘For right now, it’s a little messed up’ | Cyclists worry that new construction at popular Cedar Park trail may change it forever

Some parts of the Suburban Ninja Trail System in Cedar Park are undergoing construction to make way for a new city trail that will be three miles of concrete.
CEDAR PARK, Texas — Some hikers and bicyclists in Cedar Park are worried that a popular trail system may never look the same again.
The Suburban Ninja Trail System is right by the Brushy Creek Trail and West Parmer Lane, where a 70-acre fire burned down an apartment complex last year.
Those who use Suburban Ninja say some of the seven natural trails have been cut in half or bulldozed to make way for a new trail project. …

VERNON (KFDX/KJTL) — The 28th annual Vernon Burnin’ Bike Ride is coming up in August, one week before the Hotter’N Hell Hundred. The ride is set for Saturday, August 17, 2024, at 7:30 a.m. at the Vernon College campus at 4400 College Drive in Vernon.
There are four routes available: 12, 22, 33, and 100 miles. Rest stops will be approximately every 10 miles and will be well stocked with water, ice, sports drinks, fruit and cookies.
For riders who can no longer continue the event, sag wagons will be provided.
Following registration online, participants can pick up their packets on Friday, August 17, 2024, at the King Physical Ed Center at Vernon College.

GRAHAM (KFDX/KJTL) — The Hotter’N Hell Hundred is set for Saturday, August 24, 2024, and many cyclists have already been training for months.
For area riders looking to get some extra training in, the Possum Pedal Bike Ride will be held in Graham’s famous Downtown Square at 7 a.m., right before the Food Truck Championship of Texas on Saturday, June 1, 2024.
This year’s routes will be six, 27, 42, 50, 61, and 74 miles, leading riders through southwestern Young County, where rest stops are plentiful and ride support is strong.

Elysian Fields Elementary partnered with Mission Marshall again this year for the second annual EF Elementary Read to Ride Celebration last week. Third-graders who made a year’s growth in their reading level over this school year received a new bicycle and helmet. All EF third-graders accomplished the goal.

Red Line Parkway Initiative presents Mural Bike Tour

Red Line Parkway Initiative’s Mural Bike Tour will explore the Red Line Parkway to tour some of the artistic murals that make Downtown Austin so vibrant.
Participants can meet at MLK Jr. Station for around an 8-mile road along the Parkway to visit East Austin and Downtown art murals. The tour will end at around 1 pm at Plaza Saltillo Station. Participants can then ride their bikes or take the train from Plaza Saltillo Station back to MLK Jr. Station, or stick around to join the Taco Walk Tour starting at 1:30 pm from Plaza Saltillo Station.
All ages are welcome, though ages 14 and under must be accompanied by an adult.
