Plan for 100-mile trail from San Antonio to Austin still trekking on

Ever since the ambitious plan of connecting San Antonio to Austin with a 100-mile trail was announced, hikers, runners, cyclists, and outdoor enthusiasts have been waiting anxiously for the vision to come to life. And, it will still be some time until that project is completed, but organizers continue to gain ground and trek on.
The Great Springs Project, founded by San Antonio native Deborah Morin, aims to create a hike and bike trail from the Alamo to the Texas State Capitol by connecting four great springs: San Antonio, Comal, San Marcos, and Barton springs. Aside from the recreational side, the non-profit’s objective is to preserve and protect 50,000 acres over the Edwards Aquifer recharge zone, between San Antonio and Austin. …

It’s been nearly two weeks since William Mize, 65, was hit and killed while he was biking near the Missions
SAN ANTONIO – Veronica Salas’ bike has barely any room left after she’s equipped it with safety gear.
“This is an extra light,” Salas said. “That way they can see me from further away.”
Although she’s been cycling in the city for over a decade, Salas said she’s scared. Just one week ago, William Mize, 65, was biking down South Presa when he was hit and killed by a driver. San Antonio cyclists, like Salas, say they’re heartbroken and now they’re calling for change.

Cedar Park leaders OK Bell District shared-use path design, plus other updates

Cedar Park City Council cleared a $360,000 contract for the design of the Bell District shared-use path, or SUP, project Feb. 22.
