Here’s where TxDOT is funding safer bike trails and walkways across North Texas

Officials at the Texas Department of Transportation last week announced an historic investment in bike trails and pedestrian walkways as demand grows for more walkable neighborhoods across the region.
The Texas Transportation Commission approved $345 million in federal fundsfor projects that include Five Mile Creek Trail in Southern Dallas and the Cotton Belt/Silver Line Rail Trail that will run from the North Dallas suburbs to East Fort Worth.
The funding is about six times more than the $55 million TxDOT made available in 2021 for what it calls Transportation Alternatives.

#1: Day 38: 10/31/23 Silsbee to Merryville,TX By sedona_rocks on Tue 31 Oct 2023 18:32 (US/Pacific) Reply Rating: (0) We waited until 9:30 to get started in order to avoid the early showers. We didn’t get any rain on the ride today and in fact we rode in full sun after lunch. Yay. Nothing too special about our ride except that we made it out of Texas after 19 days. We’ll be in Louisiana for the next week. We are camping on the grounds of the Merryville Historical Society and Museum. They greeted us when we rolled in and then cooked a wonderful dinner this evening for us. We stuffed our faces with crawfish etouffee, fried shrimp, hush puppies, salad and a bunch of homemade desserts. The meal was followed by a short talk on the history of the area. It was all very wonderful. It is going down to 36 tonight so we are all bundled up in our tents. We have one more day of this cold snap before it starts to warm up. I think we are all looking forward to that.

Day 39 – Silsbee, TX to Merryville, LA: State #5!!
Tuesday October 31, 2023 It was a good thing we had indoor facilities last night. It got down to 44 degrees and the wind has been nonstop. We again waited until it looked like rain wouldn’t be a problem, so we didn’t get on the road until 9:30. It did work. No rain today.
However, the wind was not our friend. For weeks the wind has been coming from the southeast as we have been traveling southeast. Today we needed to travel north and guess what? It blew from the north at about 13 mph. Kind of aggravating. It seems the wind has been blowing against us most of the time.
Again I dressed and rode in my winter weather gear. I never did get too warm but I did ride comfortably. Many of the riders didn’t bring enough cold weather riding clothes. We have a couple more days of this cold and wind and then things are supposed to get back to normal. …
