Cyclists ‘stalked’ by self-driving taxis in Austin, Texas

Texas-based journalist Caitlin Giddings has shared her experience riding among the new fleet of self-driving taxis in Austin, the capital of Texas, USA.
These new driverless cars, introduced to the city by General Motors in December 2022, are incredibly cautious and endlessly patient but, from Giddings’ account, it appears that the cars are so nervous that they cause more harm than good.
They clog up quiet roads as they …

coveringkaty.com
It’s that time of year to ‘get in gear’ for the 3rd Annual Fort Bend County District Attorney’s Bike Ride for Survivors hosted by Expose Excellence Youth Foundation scheduled for Saturday, October 7th, at Brazos River Park in Sugar Land.
October 7, 2023, is the 3rd Annual D.A. Ride for Survivors! The Ride will start at 7:30 a.m. from Brazos River Park and end there as well.
Last year’s ride provided nearly $20,000 in grants to local non-profits like Fort Bend Women’s Center, Katy Christian Ministries, Daya, and Aid to Victims of Domestic Abuse (AVDA) to help domestic violence survivors with emergency food and shelter. This year’s profits will become grants to support local non-profits that aid victims of violent crime and youth programs.
This year there will be more than just the finish line and food at the end of the ride. October is National Domestic Violence Awareness Month. Once again there will be a color run and the DA Fitness Challenge. There will also be face painting and an art walk from the Expose Excellence Youth Program. …

Jonathan Limehouse | www.houstonchronicle.com
Houstonians who rely on BCycle’s bike share service will soon be out of luck as the nonprofit agency behind the operation said it is shutting down in two months.
Houston Bike Share’s leadership said that their BCycle bike share system must shut down “in the face of a major cash crunch,” even after cost-cutting measures like suspending stations and increasing prices.
“As directors of a nonprofit, we don’t have a choice,” board vice chair James Llamas said Saturday. “We can’t run out of money.”

Lots of moving parts today. Gravel everywhere up near Sanger 10-12 miles worth. Had 3 flats on the gravel! Last flat we had no CO2 left so borrowed a compressor from a very nice Sanger elderly lady that was standing in her driveway. Perfect timing! Got water and fixed the flat. Then On to Denton. Stopped at bike shop to buy tubes and cartridges. All good and got home very late!
