200+ Mile Week String Continued. Fueled By A Blueberry Donut!
Sunrise gets later as summer moves along. I started today’s bike ride at 8 AM trying to get rolling a few minutes before that. My Cervelo Caledonia bike carried me over the typical Saturday route, Atascocita – Huffman – Walden. This would be the twelfth bike ride on the route in 2023. I needed 12 miles to hit another 200+ mile week and today I rode 34.15 miles securing 11 weeks in a row over 200 miles. This week came in at 222.59 miles. Along with the mileage mark the hot weather continued with the forecast of 104 degrees this afternoon. I peeked at the Wichita Falls weather for next Saturday and it looks hot: 106 degrees, low humidity and clouds. Just like here. For August I’ve biked 621 miles or 78% of my 800 mile goal.
Highlights from today’s ride: numerous cyclists along the route, no flat tire, stopped at Donald’s Donuts for a blueberry cake donut and 4 cyclists were there as I rode up, finished at 10:59 AM before the temperature got out of control, and the audio in the video was good. Riding into the headwind actually had a cooling effect. After today’s ride I watched stage 5 of the Vuelta a Burgos where it looked just like here, hot and very dry. Two Strava local legends: Local Legend on Kingwood middle sprint and Local Legend on Squirrel Sprint.
Weather: Start 81 degrees, 89% humidity, dew point 77.7, partly cloudy, wind SW 5 mph; Finish 92 degrees,58% humidity, dew point 75.3, a few clouds, wind variable 6 mph. I probably will ride tomorrow (Sunday) because the temperature may be 100+ by the time I get home from church.
