This Cyclist Is Competing in Unbound Gravel to Raise Awareness for Those at Risk of ALS
By Daniel Barvin, as told to Emily Shiffer | www.bicycling.com
“As long as I’m able, I will eagerly chase after new cycling goals and embark on adventures.”

I started cycling as a young child, inspired by my father’s skills on the bike. Watching him effortlessly ride with no hands or navigate our bike trailer through challenging mountain biking trails inspired me to discover what the magic of two wheels could deliver.
As an adult, my cycling journey began after I completed college. It was …

Fun ride today! This route is a bit of a pilgrimage early in the season for me to check my climbing legs. One of these years, I likely won’t be able to do the monster climb fully seated, but that’s not this year. Lots of critters today — elk, antelolope, zebra, llamas, alpacas, oryx, and, for the first time in two years, the giraffes! Also got to pat a sweet, little ass…been years since I got to do that (see video).
