A Morning of Bike Modifications: From Swapping Saddles to Adding Inserts
I planned on riding my Lynskey Helix bike on today’s ride but before eating breakfast I modified a BiSaddle. Previously this BiSaddle was on my Lynskey Helix bike but I swapped the BiSaddle from the Cervelo Caledonia to the Lynskey. I rode the Velo Senso TT+ saddle on the Crvelo for a week or so. I had this brainstorm to add the “flat” insert BiSaddle provides which reduces the curvature of the seat pads to flat. It looked like this would be a quick job removing the seat pads, adding the insert and attaching the pads back on the frame. Alas one of the screws didn’t want to thread into the frame. I tried a couple of different length screws, then another long screw than the one I tried and finally the modification was done. Putting the modified BiSaddle on the Cervelo with the seat bag attachment clip would not allow the BiSaddle to slide forward to the distance I wanted from the handlebar to the tip of the BiSaddle. Using a different longer screw on the clip it gave the spacing to move the seat forward some. The BiSaddle was in place and the seat bag felt secure. I started watching stage 3 of the Tour de Romandie and ate breakfast. After I finished those two I got ready to ride.
As I rode out the driveway noticed I forgot to lower the BiSaddle because it is thicker than the Velo saddle. I turned around and got the Allen wrench and lowered the saddle. Before pushing the start button on the Bolt computer I rode on the street some and felt comfortable. Now I pushed the start button at 11:40 AM. Riding a few 10th’s of a mile I checked seat bag and it was loose. I went back home and changed to another seat bag that doesn’t use the quick release clip. I also lowered the seat a little more. With those changes I set off on the ride, again. Maybe I should’ve made the modifications last night.
Today’s route was to the north, New Caney – Tavola – Valley Ranch. This would be the 16th ride on this route in the last 12 months. I don’t ride the same streets each time so the distance varies from 35 miles to a little over 39 miles. Today I biked 36.58 miles moving my week’s total to 181.15 miles, within reach of a 200+ mile week if the weather cooperates. Tonight a front will move through with rain and a drop in the temperature, the high probably will be less than 70. I may wait to noon to ride to give the temperature time to warm up and the streets to dry.
At the start of today’s ride the weather was favorable with warmth and a light wind. Getting to Tavola was aided by a nice tailwind but the wind strengthened for the ride back to Kingwood. The headwind was challenging when I rode out in the open with nothing blocking the SE gusts. When I finished at 2:47 PM and looked at the weather I knew why the wind felt much stronger on the way back to Kingwood.
Weather conditions: Start 78 degrees, humidity 66%, dew point 66, mostly clear, wind S 10 mph; Finish 81 degrees, humidity 56%, dew point 64, a few clouds, wind SE 12 mph gusts 24 mph.

A Strava 2nd fastest time on Kris Spraggins Memorial Route (2:30) as I rode through Elm Grove Village on the way to Woodridge Forest and US59. I’m the Strava Local Legend on that segment too.
