The recent completion of the 11th-12th Street underpass on Interstate 35 will not only help drivers get from Baylor University to downtown but will provide the missing link in a crosstown bicycle corridor years in the making, bike advocates say.
The underpass saw its full opening last weekend, four years after the Texas Department of Transportation removed the old overpass as part of the $341 million reconstruction of Interstate 35 through Waco. Pedestrians can now take a sidewalk under I-35 at the crossing, and bike traffic can cross under the freeway at grade instead of having to climb a steep overpass.

Cyclists and walkers split the trail Friday, March 24, 2023, on a section of the Harlingen Arroyo Hike and Bike Trails in Arroyo Park. The Valley Off-Road Bicycling Association is working with the city of Harlingen to launch a program for an emergency alert system to help sick and injured hikers and bikers in need of emergency services. (Denise Cathey/The Brownsville Herald)
HARLINGEN — Across miles of winding trails, hundreds of bikers and hikers are trekking deep into the Arroyo Colorado’s remote brushlands.
About 20 years after city officials opened the first stretch of the Arroyo Hike and Bike Trail, a local mountain biking group began carving out about 10 miles of dirt tracks drawing hundreds of racers.
Now, the Valley Off-Road Bicycling Association is working with city officials to launch an internationally acclaimed emergency alert system, which member Tom Kimbriel helped develop while serving with the U.S. Border Patrol. …

Day 29: Camp Wood to Vanderpool, TX: Texas Hill Country
Sunday April 2, 2023, 42 miles (68 km) – Total so far: 1,475 miles (2,374 km) Warm start. Set out early to ride at my own pace knowing that there are three significant climbs today. The first one comes pretty quickly after turning off Hwy 55 onto TR 337. We had been told this is motorcycle heaven and a sign informs drivers that 22 motorcyclists have been killed on this road since 2006. The climb is not too bad, very windy and up, up, up, but the Grammy gears that I have not had to use for a while perform great: gear down and glide up. A ridge on top has lots of undulating hills and the descent is fast on smooth pavement and nothing short of a superb natural high. The endorphins were …

Had our first bike education class today as a #BikeFriendlyBusiness! Why? Well, cars are the #1 source of air pollution in Houston & bikes don't pollute. Plus it's good for the body and for the team. @airallianceHOU pic.twitter.com/KbSv114Gg7
