Wind, Saddle Sores Recovery Bike Ride
Today was a short bike ride for me. I wasn’t sure how my recovering saddle sores would react to a longer bike ride. I rode north along US77 on the frontage road to Loop 499. The frontage road was chip and seal but Loop 499 was asphalt. I appreciated the less bumpy ride on the loop.
I started riding at 10:07 AM, earlier than my rides last Thursday and Friday. No bike races to watch today and delay my start. I finished at 11:19 AM.
Yesterday I planned a route with RWGPS with about 18 miles but I didn’t use that route today coming in at 14.17 miles. I will ride more miles tomorrow.
Wind blows strong here. I checked the weather conditions on my phone. The ride to the north would be with a tailwind but riding on Loop 499 the wind would turn into a headwind as the road bent to the SW. Weather conditions: start 82 degrees, 63% humidity, dew point 68, wind S 24 mph gusts 32 mph; finish 88 degrees, 50% humidity, dew point 67, wind SW 17 mph gusts 25 mph.
My legs handled the headwind but my speed fell compared to the tailwind ride north. I used the 35×15 gears once I was warmed up. My AXS.SRAM.com ride report shows the gearing and power data.
Strava awarded a silver medal for the only segment on the ride. 2nd fastest time on Breedlove to Harrison on Loop499 (17:45)
