GoPro Experiment. Forest Cove – Oakhurst – Valley Ranch
After getting home from church and watching a cyclocross race I got ready to ride outside. I chose my Forest Cove – Oakhurst – Valley Ranch route but modified it a little. The ride started at 1:50 PM. I added a loop going by Kingwood High School and later rather than riding east on Valley Ranch Bend Drive I went through Forest Colony to US59. This was the second time I rode this route this year but today was a longer distance. I rode my Lynskey Helix bike. I tried a different mount for the GoPro camera on the handle bar stem but it moved from the road vibrations so it won’t work.
The history for this year and last shows I rode this route 7 times, all on my two different Lynskey bikes. I didn’t check but I think these were on Sundays.Today was the longest ride in miles.
The weather was pleasant and at the start of the ride the wind was from the SW at 7 mph but when I finished it had increased to 12 mph with 20 mph gusts. No wonder it was hard pedaling into the headwind on the way back to KIngwood from Forest Colony. I dressed comfortably with shorts, long sleeve jersey and wind jacket. A mostly cloudy sky warmed it up to 75 by the time I finished at 4:08 PM. My legs handled the wind well as I built my overall average speed up to 14.0 mph and held it until I got back into Kingwood. In the video several other cyclists were out as well.
So far I have been on the bike every day for a total of 1147 miles and I lead all of my previous years YTD mileage by at least 120 miles and most years by larger margins. This week I rode 181.74 miles. 4 Zwift days and 3 road days.
