No Escaping The 10% Climbs, Stage 6 Tour of Makuri Islands
I hoped today I could avoid the 10% climb at the start of the ride but it was there waiting on me and again at the finish. This was a new route for me but it covered some of the same roads as the Makuri 40 route I rode yesterday. Stage 6 of the Tour of Makuri Islands had two routes and I chose the longer Country to Coastal at 20.8 miles with 899 feet of climbing. Actually I rode 20.89 miles and climbed 928 feet. During the ride I watched the feet climbed almost as much as the distance. With less than 2 miles to go there was around 200 feet of climbing left and I was hoping it would spread out over those miles but it came in lumps. 4 sprints today versus 5 yesterday. No Strava top results since this was the first time on the route and there were only 3 segments.
According to ZwiftInsider.com, “One of Makuri Islands’ longest routes, Country to Coast takes you on a tour of Yumezi’s castle area and farmlands as well as Urukazi’s wild coastline.” Route basics: Length: 33.4 km (20.8 miles), Elevation: 274 m (899‘), Lead-In: 0.13 km (0.1 miles).
Some sand and gravel on the route near the water it was sand and in the forest it was gravel. I stuck with my road bike because I didn’t know how many miles it would be and I didn’t want to stop and change.
While I rode the 20.89 miles I listened to Pandora’s Contemporary Christian Radio station.
