Day 42: Kountze, TX to Merryville, LA: Bye Bye Texas!
Sunday November 13, 2022, 67 miles (108 km) – Total so far: 2,132 miles (3,431 km) Three weeks and more than 1000 miles to cycle across Texas! Wow! We were ready for a new state, and we got it today. Very cool day, and the many big trees along the roads cast shade on the roads that made it feel even cooler. Also unusual was a north headwind, blowing some of that arctic air in our faces. Not a vicious headwind, but enough to slow us sometimes and induce me to go down on my drop handlebars. This was our first and only significant headwind so far! We had a tasty lunch at Dane’s Crawfish & More. Then peddled on toward Louisiana, crossing the border at the Sabine River. Celebrate!! Then a few miles to Merryville, where the local history Museum maintains a tiny cabin for passing cyclists. Sweet!
