Day 21 Marfa: Lonesome day
Friday October 14, 2022, 74 miles (119 km) – Total so far: 1,225 miles (1,971 km) Today it’s my turn to cook with Jack as assistant chef. This means I have to reach camp in Marfa between 2 and 3 pm, to give enough time to put up my tent, get a shower and go off to the supermarket with Ankur to buy provisions for the evening meal and breakfast. Day 21: Van Horn, TX to Marfa, TX
Saturday October 15, 2022, 74 miles (119 km) – Total so far: 1,140 miles (1,835 km) Today was a mental and physical challenge. Our second day in a row of more than 70 miles and our seventh day of riding without a rest.
We awoke to nice weather and the first 10 or so miles was pretty good. Then we started a long shallow climb of about 1000 feet over 50 miles. Normally that wouldn’t even be noticeable but there were headwinds of about 10 mph as well. There was some scenery but no services at all along the way today. So one of our leaders set up a water stop at mile 38. It turns out that there is a tiny library that was funded by Carl Rove in Valentine, TX (population 134). We stopped and …
