Google Delayed The Ride, Computer Lost It’s Head But Recovered
A late start on today’s bike ride but I have excuses. I watched the Google Pixel presentation until 10 AM and then got ready. As I was finished putting on my arm sleeves I notices my Bolt computer had an update to install so I went ahead did that because it usually takes a minute or two. But today it seemed to take much longer until the warmup screen came on. I put the Bolt on the Cervelo Caledonia and noticed the heading field was not working but I thought maybe the update changed how it works and maybe it would wake up when I started the ride. I rode away at 10:47 AM on the Cervelo Caledonia. As I rode I needed to decide which route I was going to ride. I knew it would go south and east to Huffman but not the specific route. As I pedaled I decided to ride the Atascocita South – Walden – Huffman route. It is slightly longer than the Atascocita – Walden – Huffman route.
The heading field on the Bolt still wasn’t working so I stopped about .8 of a mile into the ride, shut off the Bolt, and restarted it. This time the heading field came to life and I got started again. The ride GPS started tracking me when I restarted the Bolt so the ride was .8 of a mile longer than the 36.31 indicated on Strava.
Checking SportTracks after I finished at 1:40 PM I saw this was the 6th bike ride on this route in 2022. I thought I rode it several more times than that. All rides were on the same bike.
Sunshine was back as summer seems to reassert itself. No chance of rain. With that I wore my summer kit: shorts, arm sleeves, short sleeve jersey. I took a water bottle for hydration but probably should’ve used my CamelBak. Weather for the ride: start 80 (humidity 57%, dew point 63), a few clouds, wind N 7 mph; finish 87 (humidity 36%, dew point 57), a few clouds, wind N 7 mph.
Near the end of the ride as I was about to exit the greenbelt onto Golden Leaf Drive a man stood beside his bike looking up in the trees. As I got closer he told me he saw a couple of eagles flying away. That is unusual for this spot but possible with all of the trees. I’ve seen owls around there but no eagles.
