Fort Worth made sports history this summer when the only Texan racing in the reborn women’s Tour de France was Emily Van Dyken Newsom, a TCU alum, classical pianist, and product of the local Trinity Trails. Newsom, who commutes around town on a canary yellow Cannondale bicycle, was among six American riders in the 642-mile race. The competition began in Paris on July 24, the same day the men’s Tour de France ended, and concluded eight days later at a summit in the Vosges Mountains. “Everything about it was incredible,” says Newsom, 39, an Alamo Heights mom who …

Opinion: Approve Dallas trail funding
By Philip Hiatt Haigh | www.dallasnews.com
As trail use grows, so should city’s maintenance budget.
Dallas stands apart when you travel by trail.
Take a family bike ride along Northaven Trail, where an inflatable movie screen and projector show movies at dusk on summer nights.
Stroll down SoPac Trail and walk past the buzzing activity of a pollinator garden, blossoming with wildflowers, a stop for monarch butterflies on their migratory path.
There’s always the iconic watering hole where you can jump off Katy Trail to grab an ice-cold beverage and continue to Victory Park and Downtown.
At Trinity Forest Trail along the Trinity River, the immediate entrance into the forest allows you to reconnect with nature and maybe catch an early morning glimpse of an owl gliding through the trees.
Pocket parks, pollinator gardens, murals and movie nights create unique experiences offered along …

Day 17: Las Cruces New Mexico to El Paso Texas
Saturday September 24, 2022 67 miles today with low 90s temps. Route 28 and 186 were beautiful to ride on. They were lined with the most gorgeous pecan trees and cotton plants. The shade was wonderful for the first 2 hours. The route took me past many beautiful ranches. My favorite activity-I managed to stop three times for coffee and chat to locals. I met many individual and Peloton cyclists. I was envious of their TT bikes. These roads are perfect for Saturday morning cycling groups. We took the Anthony Gap alternate route up 186 to 404-213 because allegedly it has less traffic than the main route into El paso. Our route turned onto …
GTX Trails Dig Day 10.16 @ 9am
By BRAZOS1845 | austinmountainbiking.com
Come out and build some sweet new singletrack with Georgetown Trails Foundation on October 16th at 9am. Meet at Chautauqua Park, where we will be extending a new segment that flows alongside the rocky bluffs of the San Gabriel River’s South Fork. We’ve got plenty of spare tools – just bring gloves, water, and some sturdy shoes. Should be a fun time!

@CityOfDallas 24 of the first 25 flexible posts marking—obviously not protecting—the bike lane on WB Commerce Ave. Bridge have been mowed down. This happened last year; posts were reinstalled and same result. Time for a different approach? https://t.co/iIa7IwJupT pic.twitter.com/XpCRnsKbxL
