Austin’s Trail Foundation rebrands and becomes primary steward of beloved Butler Trail

The Trail Foundation has been one of the central preservers of Austin’s outdoorsy culture for nearly 20 years, caring for a crucial piece of public land, the Ann and Roy Butler Hike-and-Bike Trail and Boardwalk along Lady Bird Lake. It is the threshold from upper to lower Austin, and an organic gathering place for just about every Austinite at some point in their city life.
On September 22, TTF announced big news that may sound little: The organization formalized its partnership with the City of Austin, and is changing its name to the Trail Conservancy (TTC) to better reflect its new duties. This news happens to come on the heels of the Butler Trail’s 50th anniversary in December of 2021.

Sep. 22—Palestine is set for a big weekend under the pines with two major events on tap to enjoy.
The 9th annual Camino Gravel Challenge gravel cycling event, formerly known as the ‘Camino 205,’ returns to Anderson County this Saturday, Sept. 24 and Sunday, Sept. 25.
This unique event attracts cyclists from across the region to ride and compete across the beautiful backroad scenery of Palestine and the surrounding area.
Saturday, Sept. 24 will feature a post ride after party that is free to all who would like to attend and will include live music, vendors and more. The event will take place at the Shelton Gin, located at 310 E Crawford St in Old Town Palestine with live music beginning at noon. …

WACO, Texas (FOX 44) – A Waco tradition for people of all ages is returning this weekend!
The goals of the Waco Wild West 100 are to encourage and motivate people to cycle, to promote safe riding and camaraderie, and to donate to local nonprofits. Additional funds raised over the years have been donated to Be the Match, local bike clubs, veterans, remote radio operators, school bike rodeos, and many more worthy causes.
This year’s event will start at Heritage Square at 8 a.m. Saturday, with the ride lasting until 2 p.m. There is also a Virtual Ride Option for those who want to do the event on their own time and schedule and still earn that finisher medal!
Man charged with murder after bicyclist killed in crash sparked by argument in Galveston, police say

GALVESTON, Texas (KTRK) — A man is charged with murder in a crash reportedly sparked by an argument that killed a bicyclist in Galveston.
Police said the crash happened around 7 p.m. Wednesday on 32nd Street and Avenue R.
A man driving a vehicle and a man on a bike got into some sort of verbal and physical altercation before the crash, witnesses told police.
The man who was riding the bike, identified as 39-year-old Cody Compian, was rushed to the hospital, where he later died.
