I Was No Where Near Biking That Fast!!
If you watch the video at the end the route is traced out showing that I hit 88 mph as I started to cross Lake Houston. I can assure you I was no where near that fast. I don’t drive my Jeep that fast. Being Thursday I usually bike to the Huffman area and today was no different. I chose the same route name as Tuesday, Atascocita – Walden – Huffman, but I changed a few streets in Kingwood and added the Atascocita Hike & Bike Trail instead of riding on Water Point Trail and other streets east of W. Lake Houston Parkway. This added some distance to the ride and I biked 36.1 miles compared to Tuesday’s 35.39 miles. I rolled out at 9:22 AM and finished at 12:18 PM. I saw two other cyclists, one on Chanay Lane in Kingwood early in the ride and Pete again on Pines Place Drive in Atascocita. Today’s ride put me over my 720 mile goal for the month with 751.21 miles and increased my week total to 145.96 miles. I should be able to ride 200+ miles this week. On Saturday I will bike the Rollin’ Pearland ride on the 43 mile route. Today was the 26th time on this route in 2022. Updating my miles for 2022 I’ve rode 7,486 miles putting me 97 miles ahead of 2021 and 352 miles more than 2020.
The wind picked up during the ride with 16 mph gusts and 8 mph from the north which accounts for the hard effort whenever I had a headwind. Pete commented as we passed about the strong wind. Later today fall arrives but the forecast doesn’t change to reflect that until a front arrives late Monday. Weather during the bike ride: start 82 (humidity 76%, dew point 73), fair, wind NW 4 mph; finish 93 (humidity 50%, dew point 72), fair, wind N 8 mph gusts 16 mph. I stopped at the Exxon station at E. Lake Houston Parkway and FM 1960 to get ice for my water bottle. It was hot enough I should’ve used my CamelBak.
At the Atascocita Shore Drive and FM 1960 construction zone I rode on the asphalt base layer on the way back. Maybe the concrete will be poured soon. You can see what it looks like in the video.
The AXS.SRAM ride report shows 1:41:56 using the 35×13 gears out of riding time of 2:48:05 with 31 RD shifts. I remembered to change to the 35×15 when stopping most of the time.
