Second Summer? Light Wind, Strong Pedaling
Bike ride friendly weather continues this week according to the Space City Weather Monday newsletter. Maybe a second summer. I took advantage of the weather for today’s bike ride leaving at 9:22 AM with the temperature at 83 degrees, wind from the NE at 6 mph, and the humidity at a muggy 81%. During the 2:55:01 long bike ride thankfully the humidity went down to 65% and the wind held steady at 6 mph. I chose my New Caney – Gene Campbell Road route riding north along US59 to New Caney, then NW on FM 1485 to Gene Campbell Blvd (the correct name). Gene Campbell Blvd took me to FM 1314 which I rode SE to Old Sorters Road, through Briar Tree, Oakhurst to US59 and then back into Kingwood. The last time I biked this route was July 27th so it has been almost 2 months. That ride went 39.37 miles and I wasn’t sure I would ride that far today but I exceeded that distance with 40.5 miles today. I need only 74 miles to reach my 720 mile goal for September. I finished today’s bike ride at 12:41 PM.
The extra mile came from taking the TX 99 frontage road from US59 to Loop 494 and then riding the west bound TX99 frontage road back to US59 to continue onto New Caney. From the year to date ride summary for this route I used 3 different bikes and today was the longest ride.
Checking the AXS.SRAM ride report the total moving time was 3:19:11. I used the 35×13 gears for 2:00:46 (29.7 miles). The light wind helped with the gears usage. I made 29 RD changes with stopping for traffic lights accounting for many of them. Once I was on FM 1314 I improved my overall average speed to 14.2 mph and held it until I was nearing Kingwood.
