3 Dogs In The Bike Basket On Labor Day
I didn’t ride on Sunday, too problems to deal with but I was back on the bike today, Labor Day the last summer holiday. I tackled more of the invasive plants in my backyard before rolling out on the bike ride at 9:15 AM. I wanted to ride a long route so I chose my New Caney – Roman Forest – Valley Ranch route for the 6th ride this year. I added a few extra streets to the usual ones and rode 44.85 miles, more miles than the other 5 rides and finished at 12:41 PM. For a holiday the traffic was about normal on the main roads. I need to bike 572 more miles to reach my 720 mile goal for September. You can see the 3 dogs in the video.
Looking at the rides summary above 5 of the 6 rides were on my Cervelo Caledonia including today. The average distance for the 6 rides came in at 42.8 miles.
On the ride I made an effort to shift from the 35×13 gears to the 35×15 gears when I approached a red traffic light to make the start up easier when the light turned green. This resulted in 27 RD shifts according to the AXS.SRAM.com ride report. I used the 35×13 gears for 2:17:37 or 33.8 miles. Total moving time was 3:18:31.
Cooler weather at the start time and I decided to use a water bottle instead of my CamelBak. I stopped at the station in New Caney at FM 1485 and US59 to refill it with ice but their machine was empty and I just added enough water to get me to the 7Eleven at FM 1314 and Valley Ranch Parkway. Wind was light which helped me get my overall average speed up to 14.1 mph from New Caney to Kingwood. Overall weather: start 78 (humidity 89%, dew point 74), partly cloudy, wind NW 6 mph; finish 83 (humidity 80%, dew point 76), mostly cloudy, wind SW 5 mph.
