HOTTER ‘N HELL FORECAST NOT SO HOT FOR USA’S BIGGEST CYCLING EVENT

The 41st edition of the Hotter ‘N Hell Hundred gran fondo in Texas may not live up to it’s legendary name this year, it may go down as one of the coolest rides in decades.
The weather forecast for Wichita Falls on Saturday 27 August predicts a high of ONLY 90F degrees, in Texas that’s almost cool enough for cyclists to pull on arm warmers and vests when compared to training in temperatures well over 100 degrees for 22 consecutive days in July.
Nonetheless, over 10,000 amateur cyclists will welcome cooler conditions when they line up for a 07:05 start en masse – announced by the firing of a historical military cannon as United States Air Force fighter jets roar above.

Three Bell County bicyclists are headed north to Wichita Falls this weekend for the Hotter ‘N Hell Hundred — a 100-mile bicycle ride that is historically held in 100-degree heat.

Texas woman dead after driver hits her and drives away, police say

The Tarrant County Medical Examiner’s Office will identify the bicyclist once family members have been notified.
ARLINGTON, Texas — A driver hit and killed a North Texas woman without stopping Wednesday night, according to the Arlington Police Department.
Around 11:00 p.m. on Wednesday, officers with Arlington Police responded to an accident between someone driving a vehicle and a bicyclist in the 1100 block of S. Collins Street. This is southeast of the University of Texas at Arlington and southwest of AT&T Stadium.
Investigators determined a woman was riding her bike across S. Collins Street near Hensley Street, when she was hit by an unknown driver traveling southbound on S. Collins Street. The driver did not stop after hitting the bicyclist, police say.
The woman was pronounced dead on the scene by emergency medical services. Investigators …
Thousands of cyclist expected to arrive in Galveston this weekend

More than 3,000 bicyclists from across the nation are expected to meet in Galveston for the annual Island Ride Out and Bike Expo this weekend, an event that will impede lanes on many street and roads, city officials say.
The Island Ride Out, a 20-mile bike ride, will start at 6:30 p.m. Saturday at Moody Gardens.
“Our Traffic Department will cone-off the southernmost eastbound lane on Seawall from 81st Street to East Beach Drive and pick up the cones as the cyclists pass by,” city spokeswoman Marissa Barnett said.

Aaron was born in Ann Arbor, MI on July 27, 1977, and the family then moved to Salt Lake City where he attended Skyline H.S. He studied engineering at the University of Texas and met his soulmate, Cara Devetski. Upon moving to Atlanta, Aaron completed his MBA at Emory University while Cara had three small boys in quick succession.
