In Memory Of My Wife, Hazel Marie, On Her Birthday
Its not often that I ride the same direction two days in a row. I rode north yesterday and again today. This allowed me to stop at the cemetery to visit my wife’s grave on her birthday. She would’ve been 76 today. Later today I will go to one of her favorite restaurants for dinner. She supported my biking activities though she didn’t ride herself. Many times she came to get me in the rain. In July 1989 she took me to the hospital after a severe bike crash when I almost died.
Somehow I started the ride before 9 AM rolling out on my Cervelo Caledonia at 8:51 AM. I chose my “Community Drive – Cumberland – Oakhurst” route to not duplicate too much of yesterday’s ride. I changed the route a little on the way to US59 looping through North Woodland Hills for some variety. Another change I made was riding the frontage road east beside TX 99 and then the TX 99 westbound frontage road back to US59 to head to Valley Ranch. These changes lengthened the distance to 35.66 miles compared to the previous 3 rides on this route in 2022. Today’s miles moved me closer to reaching my 800 mile goal for August to 273 miles. Not bad considering there are 15 days left in the month.
Weather was favorable with moderate wind and 54% humidity and the temperature moving from 84 degrees to 92 by the time I finished at 11:48 AM. I wore white arm sleeves so I could see any salt stains. Weather overview: start 84 (humidity 78%, dew point 77), mostly cloudy, wind N 0 mph; finish 92 (humidity 54%, dew point 73), partly cloudy, wind SE 6 mph.
The AXS.SRAM.com ride report reflects the low impact of wind with me using the 35×13 gears for 1:46:44 (25 miles) out of a total moving time of 2:54:07. I made 22 RD gear changes.
I may have found a cure for the GoPro randomly freezing when I press the Quik Capture button. I turned off the wireless connection and it has not froze on 4 rides. Not sure why that would fix the problem.
