Drier Than Last Saturday. Needed 17 Rode 33
Saturday’s bike ride is when I look for other cyclists along the route. In order to improve the likelihood of seeing them I try to start my ride before 8 AM and I choose a route to get to FM 1960 at Lake Houston early. Today I rolled out at 7:51 AM on my Cervelo Caledonia following my usual Saturday route, Atascocita – Huffman -Walden. The route is on streets I ride regularly but I change the order when I get to Kings River Drive at W. Lake Houston turning left there. Some of my other routes go on this street but in the opposite direction. Kings River changes into Atascocita Shores about half way to FM 1960. This gets me to FM 1960 in less time than when I ride through Walden and then to FM 1960. To keep the distance around 32 to 33 miles after riding west over Lake Houston I go south to Walden and then go north on Pinehurst Trail Drive. I rode 33.33 miles today for the 17th biking the route this year. That is about the average distance for those times. After 17 miles I hit 200 miles for the week and ended with 216.73 miles for the week with one day left. I’m making progress towards my 800 mile goal for August with 443.89 miles as after today’s bike ride.
Last Saturday my bike ride got rained on and shortened but no rain anywhere to do that this time. Lots of sun and puffy small clouds dotted the sky. The wind was more of a problem riding east over Lake Houston. By then I think it reached 13 mph and I changed gears to 35×15 because of the headwind. On the return ride over the lake the tailwind was much appreciated. An early start also meant the temperature was lower and the humidity higher. When I finished at 10:29 AM my arm sleeves were soaked from sweat as was my shorts and jersey. Weather summary: start 77 (humidity 94%, dew point 75), partly cloudy, wind N 7 mph; finish 87 (humidity 65%, dew point 74), partly cloudy, wind NE 13 mph.
East of FM 2100 I stopped and took these photos on Old Atascocita Road. The video has other cyclists I saw.
