SAN ANTONIO, TEXAS
Generating watts with “wintervals,” this winter I decided to forgo the indoor trainer and do all of my workouts outside. I rode in the dark, the cold and the wet (no snow here in South Texas), and whenever the weather was particularly bad, I reminded myself that sometimes it rains on race day. I’m entering the spring race season feeling fitter than ever—and forever a fan of “wintervals.” The photo was taken by Guy Rubio on the Powerline Trail in San Antonio.

Cycling is one of the best forms of cross-training for runners, and the Island Rideout and Bike Expo will have events for everyone from the novices to the most competitive. An entire weekend of rides is planned from Aug. 26-28, with Moody Gardens serving as the hub of activities.
The weekend kicks off with a Friday night pub crawl that meets up at Island Bicycle at 18th and Seawall. Riders will enjoy a loop along the east end of the Seawall before heading to the Strand for a drink stop.

7 flats, 2 ripped tires (one with two rips), 1 dead shift controller battery, 8 CO2 canisters 1 case of brain fog, 1 case of cramps and about 800 corners
Rain the night before made the ride questionable. Can do 800 corners on wet roads at any reasonable pace. But went out any way. At the start it was Jeff Contreras , TK Akins [MCC] and me. Jeff hung around til the first flat and through the north and south Commonwealth sections.
TK and I took it from there and it was a bumpy ride. Got another flat not long after. Then we stopped by Virgil Skinner | FBK Cycling ‘s place to refuel, bum a few tubes and CO2’s and hang out for a bit.
By the Nth flat we were done and headed to Bagel Express for lunch. And BOOM Frank Breitenfeld ??????????????????? drops in!!
Final-ish 20mi and flats 17 through 28 were with Frank B we’re awesome!
Got some mid ride pickle juice and tubes and CO2 and pump from Durwesh Khalfe!!
Finally with visions of 125mi swimming in out heads, flat #7 finally convinced us it was time to go home.
