Flags Flapping Community Drive – Cumberland – Oakhurst
This was the second ride on this route though the roads are part of other routes. I altered the “Community Drive – Cumberland – Oakhurst” route slightly leaving Cumberland Blvd. out and adding Riverwalk Drive in. One other change was looping through Porter High School and seeing the high school drum corp practicing. (It’s in the video) It all began at 9:09 AM and finished at 12:01 PM with me riding my Lynskey Helix bike. I’ve only rode this route twice this year and this was the longest distance at 35.27 miles, about 1 mile longer than the other ride. The only other time I rode on Riverwalk Drive I had a dog sprint at Colorado Drive on the way back to FM 1314, no dog sprint today. Those miles moved the week’s total to 180.97 miles, within reach of a 200 mile week with tomorrow’s planned ride. I rode the same bike both times on this route and they were both on a Friday. I am well passed my 800 mile goal for July with 963 miles so far. Year to date totals 5720 miles.
July weather continued for this ride with 86 degrees as I started, some clouds and wind between 4 and 6 mph though it seemed stronger when it was a headwind. Humidity at the beginning was 76% but went down to 58% by the time I finished. My black kit had some salt stains with the temperature ranging from 86 to 92. I am glad I finished before the hottest time of the day. My CamelBak kept the water cold until the end with just a few ice cubes left when I emptied it out after the ride.
My legs felt better today and I used the 33×13 gears for 1:50:36 of the moving time. As I rode east on Mills Branch Drive in Oakhurst I could see another cyclist gaining on me. I slowed to make the turn onto Rock Creek as he continued straight as you can see in the video. He was faster than I was going. 56 feet elevation during the ride mostly happened when I rode up the hill to the Community Drive overpass of US59. The rest of the route was pretty flat as the profile below shows. Link to AXS.SRAM.com ride report.
