San Antonio’s oldest bicycle shop reminds residents to share the road

For no discernable reason, a pit bull was licking my ankle bone — with vicious affection — as I was sitting cross-legged on the back-room couch of San Antonio’s oldest bicycle shop. Over a sleek, grey-green coat, the dog wore a khaki harness covered in prickly Velcro flight-suit-style patches. Her owner (and the subsequent owner of the shop) Hank Estrada had a career in the Air Force before moving back home to take the Charles A. James Bicycle Shop handle bars away from his 90-year-old father.
