Paris, Texas, was the home of the Second USA Qualifier for the 2022 season. A quaint little town in North Eastern Texas, Paris provided the down home hospitality the South is known for while adding its own french twist… Cowboy hat wearing Eiffel tower and all.
Summers in Texas are hot and humid, and race day was no exception. Temperatures flirted with triple digits all day (mid 30’s for the non-Americans) as the rider’s put in hard laps and found shade where they could between runs. As the day wore on, the competition also began to heat up. Pump track veterans, Paris locals, and even a trail rider from Vermont showed up to duke it out on the Velosolutions course in Paris. …

Bikes and brews will share a lane this fall when Breakaway Brewing opens in Government Hill. The upcoming themed brewery will raise a toast to the love of cycling and craft beer.
Chris Pal-Freeman, who co-owns Breakaway Brewing with his wife, Jean Pal-Freeman, tells MySA that a meeting of biking and brewing was a "natural" crossover. The owner is an avid cyclist and says most of the friends he’s made in the sport are also craft beer fans.

Some changes — and growth — in this year’s Big BRAIN 10
by Ray Keener | www.bicycleretailer.com
Hearing from The Bigs on several topics.
A version of this article ran in the July issue of Bicycle Retailer & Industry News.
Since our first Big BRAIN 10 survey last March, two bicycle brands (Pon and Specialized) have entered the list to replace three IBDs purchased by suppliers (Mike’s Bikes by Pon, Mike Olson’s San Diego and Portland stores by Trek, and David’s World Cycle by Trek).
The unranked list is of the U.S.’s 10 largest brick-and-mortar retailers of IBD-quality bikes. It’s compiled from surveying and interviewing industry members, including suppliers, retailers and others who have a view into the market.
Since most retailers are reluctant to publicly share their revenue numbers, this time we asked them to reported their relative sales levels during the pandemic, setting 2019 sales as a baseline of 100. No surprise: everyone is up. And most said they are holding strong well into 2022.
So let’s hear from The Bigs about a range of topics, including how they’ve re-invested their pandemic windfalls back into their businesses: …
… Bike Mart
Year founded: 1962
Number of locations: 6 in Texas
Brands carried: Trek, Giant, Specialized, Electra, Cervelo, Santa Cruz, Orbea
Owned by: Ken “Woody” Smith
Relative sales:
2019: 100
2020: 140
2021: 145
2022 predicted: 105
Last year, Smith changed his stores’ name from Richardson Bike Mart to Bike Mart.
“From the outside, it all looks like upside when sales go up, right? We shared the same pandemic downside with everyone else: Not enough of the right inventory for bikes and parts,” said Smith.
“The influx of cash over the past two seasons allowed us to open up three new stores and remodel two more of them. We bought one of our buildings and set up an offsite 15,000 square foot warehouse.
“We are …
Hotter’N Hell Hundred named top 5 bike ride in the nation
by: Curtis Jackson | www.texomashomepage.com
WICHITA FALLS (KFDX/KJTL) — Back in 1982, a group of Wichitans had an idea for a bike ride here in the Falls, but after the first year’s major success, organizers decided to host the event the following year.
40 years later, the Hotter’N Hell Hundred is going stronger than ever and gaining international recognition as the largest one-day bike ride in the nation, and that ride is what landed the Hotter’N Hell Hundred in Bicycling Magazine‘s “Hundo” edition, putting it in the top five most sought after rides in the U.S.
Hotter’N Hell Hundred Chairman Robie Christie said when they first started Hotter’N Hell Hundred four decades ago, he had no clue how large it would it grow. …
