July 4th Patriotic Bike Ride to Jesse Jones Park
A special day for the United States, July 4th and I wore a patriotic jersey. I delayed the start of today’s bike ride until after I went to the Kingwood parade. Before going to the parade I had time to watch the Giro d’Italia Donne bike race. It was a great finish. Back home I got ready and rolled my Cervelo Caledonia away on the ride at 1:00 PM. By then the temperature was up to 93 but it wasn’t too bad as long as I was moving. I decided to ride to Jesse Jones Park using the Spring Creek Greenway. I thought the ride would be around 20 miles but I added some streets on the way to the trailhead and ended riding 29.02 miles. The last time I rode to Jesse Jones Park and not farther on the greenway was December 3rd, 2021 and since I’ve kept track of my rides I have rode to there 5 times, including today.
The Cervelo is getting close to 3,000 miles lacking 36 miles.
I didn’t see many people on the greenway and the parking lot at the park was almost empty. I guess people went other places for July 4th.
Weather conditions at the start and 3:25 PM finish: start 92 (humidity 46%, dew point 68), partly cloudy, wind S 5 mph; finish 87 (humidity 68%, dew point 76), mostly cloudy, wind S 9 mph gusts 17 mph. The wind gusts helped cool me some. A few clouds looked like they might have some rain and I think I felt a couple of drops but that’s all. The ice and water in my CamelBak refreshed me when I got dry.
The ride wasn’t a high energy one with the heat and short stretched of road to get up to speed. I never got my average speed above 13 mph. I did get a Strava PR on Woodland Hills TT (5:20) so there was some high energy there.
